Anyone know if this is SMR drive? Can you shuck this?

Yes, WD red or white (disguised red) inside.
I think he means you can shuck them, not that they are SMR.

Not SMR. SMR is only used by WD for 6TB drives and smaller at present. Drive is easy to remove, and with care can be done quite simply without breaking the case too.

got a couple. it's been cheaper before but desperately running out of HDD space
I got a couple of the 8TB versions recently and the drives are "WD80EZAZ" which correspond to "WDC HGST Ultrastar He10" HDD" drives. I had to use the tape trick to get the shucked drives to work.

The prices have dropped on the WD store too and the 8TB is now £124.99 (14TB is £184.99). Might be cheaper for some with the 10% newsletter discount: WD Elements 8TB
Also available at the WD store for the same price.

It’s a fantastic price, I meant too much storage. I can’t think of what I would fill it with at this time but then again I have thought this about 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB in the past and now those are average size drives for me
Great deal, but I'm still filling my 12gb drive from a few months ago!

Discounts can't be double stacked.. Works out more expensive. Still a great deal purchased directly from wd as I don't have prime.
Annoyingly i'm not able to apply the 10% discount code despite registering to the newsletter. It removes the listed discounted price which is frustrating. Looks like i'll be settling for the 8tb drive instead.

Oh no I didn't know that! Thanks for the information as I've never ordered from WD. I suppose the prices are still good especially for the elusive 8TB version that always seems to be out-of-stock at Amazon.
How do these compare to the 8TB drives (WD80EMAZ) noise wise? I want to replace my 4 shucked 8TB drives with 4 of these in my Synology.

has it? not according to the camels

actually it was £179.99 in june with a discount code from WD, and it was £199.99 from amazon and i cancelled that order and got from WD. think that was with 10% off code as i couldn't get a 15% off code at the time. i got 2 of them. so this isn't bad at all. could have perhaps used a 15% code with WD today but i think i'm seeing people saying those codes aren't working as they did before. plus i got to buy one in 5 month installments which makes it a bit easier

I have 2 in my Synology Nas and they sit about a metre away from my desk and don’t really notice them much. But don’t have anything to compare them to.

They were £169.99 via WD student offers a while back which was amazing. I should have picked up more.

Alumni??

Someone who graduated and still has a uni email address. Don’t always need to be a current student to grab most student offers.
Ordered. Cheers OP
