If I knew that I would of put it in. I did the deal and forgot to add it, now when I go to edit it won't let me put anything in the link box although it let me add a picture in the box above strange!

Can a mod add the link please?

I was tempted by this recently, but after research it is too risky for RAID, so a no-go for me. Great price for single drive usage tho!

I did have a look too but it seems they had issues November 2009 and by February they corrected the issues, so unless they are over a year old we should be alright. Although please don't hold me to this and do your own research.

Thing is I'd want to buy 4 of them, and potentially don't want four door stops. Are you going to be putting them in RAID? Would be much appreciated if you let me know your findings in this thread

yep will do

You can always use wdidle3.exe to modify the spindown time and stop a high LLC, same for the WDXXEARS range so they can be used in NAS / RAID etc.

If you're RAID-ing for redundancy, it's wiser to use disks from different vendors or puchased from different manufacturing lots. That reduces the chance of a systemic error (e.g. all the drives having the same manufacturing fault, that shows up at the same time in all of them). Presuming your RAID controller can handle it.

I bought one of these last week from Scan and it was £46 plus their usual free delivery for a registration on av forums or a few posts on Hexus.

i would wait for the 3TB WD drives, drives of lesser space will become cheaper.

And I would wait for the 50TB WD drives, drives of lesser space will become cheaper.

silly me, I should wait until 2020 for the 20tb version.... only joking

Or you could get a 1.5TB Samsung F2 for £48.16 from Scan (Today only page).

better to buy something for 4 quid and get free delivery rather than pay 4.19 for del and get nothing

do NOT raid these, i bought 2 (not used for raid) and one of them has died - reads at 4mbps now and only got through 10% of a smart scan before failing. 13 months old, rarely been used.

the 2tb ears seems more reliable than these 1.5tb eads.

The were out last week, on sale at all good PC shops !

13 months old would be in line for the November 2009 batch that had issues, these should be manufactured a long time after and judging by what I have researched should be ok. I will let you know. It's a bit like people still saying don't buy a deathstar....

well luckily WDC drives come with 3-5 year warranties so i will get one with the newer firmware when i rma it in the new year - makes me wonder if i should rma the other one too, even though its working at the moment.

i've given up slagging off hard drives, i've come to the conclusion that they're all crap (f1/2/3, caviar blue/black/green, 7200.11/12) and wish ssd's would get bigger so i didn't have to buy twice as many hard drives as i need just for backup purposes.

nail on the head there, they're all going to fail at somepoint, nature of the beast. I have been buying different make hard drives since the early years when 20mb seemed impossible to fill lol. I wouldn't bet my life on any of them.

The deal seems to have changed now to £49.99 with free delivery.

Was thinking the same!

£44.98 now :D!

Shamanoid

The 3TB is out at the start of next year you dipshit.

You totally missed the point but being a moron will cause that. When the 3TB drives come out are you going to suggest people don't buy them until the 4.5TB drives come out? It's a vicious circle that you will clearly never understand.

Any update on how you got on with the RAID ramtec? Is it good so far?
