Why is this hot? Not even remotely cheap for a hard drive.

You can buy amazon today or wait xx days for ebuyer... (ebuyer takes 10 days to deliver free to central London for me)
WONKYLEG - now there are only 3 HDD manufactures left I don't think prices will fall to pre-flood levels. Cartel "cough cough".

Amazon deal is OEM

Cold .Got this for £57 3 months ago.

Ebuyer all the way - they pack their drives properly !

Whats the difference between the green and the red. I'm one of those who bought the HP microserver deal and looking for hard drives for it. Cheers.

gone up to £80 and Schingel the red has been "specifically designed for nas storage" as per wd website

Yeah I got that biggysilly thanks, they are pricier but it looks like a 2gb £99 version is on pre-order for october. Might buy some red then. I know the green are cheaper but not sure about the reliability for a nas.

If you're filling a Microserver you're going to run RAID1 at least right? Kind of reduces the affect of a single dodgy drive. That said my 2TB EARS is running at 19056 Power_On_Hours (794 days) with no issues.

2.4 years for my Samsung HD154UI and 1.4 years for my Samsung HD204UI

However ...... a machine I built as a server for a company has been running on the original drives 24/7 solidly for the past 5 years - I think I put in a couple of 500Gb drives back then which was the largest available to me without spending stupid money. Not sure what the drives are as they are on an Nvidia Raid but they are doing well !
