plus £5 off if paying with Mastercard (if it hasnt been pulled!)

wow, that's an excellent price for 3TB's.

The MyCloud's are quite feature light though, and the remote access is a bit limited, but a good NAS for a beginner

How does this compare to the 1tb was mybooklive. I have that which seems adequate for my usage although it's nearly full!

If memory serves, the mycloud drives all come with a dual core processor and more ram so they generally work a lot quicker.

but then if your drive is adequate for what you want it for then that's all you need really. i upgraded to a synology ds114 because it was pretty feature packed and well rated and i wouldn't have anything else now.

Gutted. It was £120 this week-end on Amazon.. Same price at Argos where I bought it from.
Good thing I had £20 vouchers to use to make it back to the £100.. still...

Bargain - great price

i bought the buffalo nas from dabs a week back still backing up data, its so slow but that could be my internet. Is WD better would you say than the buffalo. I bought it so my kids can stream films to there ipads etc.

It's as slow as a week in the jail

Is your network gigabit?

I have the 4tb version. Transferring files via wifi is slow, direct transfer via external hard drive through USB always gives me errors for large files for some reason. However, as a media server to my WD TV live can't fault it. Uncompressed 30gb+ mkv movie files (blu ray ripped) streams perfectly to my WD TV live.

I have an old dual core PC kicking about & was thinking of setting it up as a basic fileslinger.

What advantages would there be to getting one of these instead? (I can probably think of 2 - Size & power consumption).

I just want the best value option for feeding music & video to my AV system.

Cheers for any advice.

Try using FastCopy:
ipmsg.org/too….en

Make sure you turn on I/O and Use OS buffer in the main settings.

I had a MyCloud WD drive before, 1TB. Was getting 5mbps transfers over USB! Was a limitation of the hardware. Anyone know if this is any quicker?

can this be used for macs aswell?

Use these at work - excellent cheap local NAS storage. Transfer 800gb in just over an hour.

Easy to configure and if necessary you can do all sorts of hacks on these as they run Debian Wheezy.

Yes - works with Timemachine natively.

can you run plex and xbmc and stuff like that off it.... so the computer doesnt have to be on?

Been there, thought that. I opted for the cheaper, smaller, more power efficient 2 disk 'professional' NAS.
... wish i hadn't.
It really depends what you want; if you want control, build it yourself. It won't necessarily be cheaper.
If you've got VERY basic demands, then this might suit your needs.
Possibly a good compromise would be a NAS box that you can add additional features via plug-ins (i.e. Netgear, Synology, QNAP).
If you're after something along these lines make sure there is an active community updating these plug-ins or you'll be left with an lemon. These boxes look good, but tend to be more expensive.

Got one of these setup for basic sharing mainly download 'something' from Mac connected via wifi directly to the MyCloud which can then be accessed by TV, Xbone etc. Works a treat

Nope, but you can point Plex server/XBMC device to the NAS to add media sources.
Anyhoo, i had one of these but sold it recently. I had a lot of data on mine, and found there was constant disk activity on the NAS, so it was always flashing away and making noise. It's a pretty common complaint with the My Cloud devices. It's like it is indexing the data, but it never stops.

Great price, Voted HOT!

How does the voucher work? Is the £5 removed automatically if using MasterCard or is there a code to type in? Doesn't seem to be working for me

Apologies for my ignorance/laziness. Just found the code. Have some heat!

Bought, £95, paid with my MasterCard and applied this code:

Some of the newer Synology models are able to run Plex, although if you're running a device that has DLNA capability then i can't really see the point of Plex. But that's just me

I have amazon fire tv with plex on it, having all my media on this instead of my pc is what I want, so PC does not have to be on to stream.

This item makes it possible I'm assuming.

I bought the old version( myBookLive) last year (the version without USB) and it's awful for TimeMachine on Mac.
So a note for anyone buying this one, make sure you backup over USB instead of WiFi, it's not worth the hassle.

Voted hot anyway

Contact them via chat and say you are annoyed at the price drop - they will refund the difference as a "one off goodwill gesture".

GL.

Typical, I just bought one last week for £120

Awesome bit of kit , first thing you MUST do is update the firmware , also to get the best from it it needs to be in a gigabit network, I'm getting 32Mb/s write and 106mb/s read , can even stream music to my phone over 3G/4g, well worth the money

How slow is data transfer via WiFi? is it unbearably slow or similar to slow USB sticks?
I have standard WiFi setup, nothing special.
Also if you do the transfer via USB,is accessing the files(playing videos, broswing pictures) wirelessly also slow and laggy?

No, you would still need plex server running on a pc. You could sideload XBMC on the Fire TV and add media from the NAS

Not bad, but how do you back this up?

Yep, or you can also backup to another network device using "Safepoints" (basically an image of the disk contents)

This is a great deal. I've got one of these to replace a Zyxel 500GB box. When connected to a Gigabit switch (wired!) its very fast - do your first backup etc. using this method! Most complaints about speed (for pretty much all NAS drives....) is due to the speed of the network. Over wifi/powerline you'll be limited by that (I get about 4 megabytes per second transfer over Wi-fi and about 8-9 Megabytes per second over powerline in my house). I forget the speed wired, but it was MUCH faster!

The web app for the device is also very nice and easy to configure. Highly recommended.
