According to 3 x Camel this is the lowest price this device has ever been in a good while

In stock on September 9, 2016, Brand new from Amazon

May be a convenient purchase for someone making their first foray into having a NAS.

I have a dedicated HTPC myself, but was thinking about picking this up an electricity friendly unit for streaming Plex when i am away for a few days.

Need to research it more, but hope it is of help to someone

Please don't buy one, they're rubbish. At the very least check what people on forums say about them if you don't accept my suggestion.

I had one, it was was so bad that I ended up smashing it open and taking out the hard drive to use separately. It is formatted in ext3 or ext4, I forget which, either way it is unreadable by Windows10

don't buy one even at half this price

What other Cloud type of backup Hard Drive would you recommend ?

I honestly don't have the expertise to suggest one over another. I just know that this particular model is a poor implementation

The comments on Amazon make it seem like a bit of a Marmite unit to be fair. Cheers for the insight though quidstretchy.

Maybe not the best deal to put up as my first one X)

If you just want to use one of these as a basic NAS and turn off the scanning services that keep the thing running too much and slow down performance, follow this guide.

Worked for me and my WDMyCloud now works well.
