you'd normally run them in raid for data redundancy so at least if one of your drives dies, the data is stored on another disk. (though costs more money as you need at least an additional HDD)
If you're worried about losing your data have back ups. Fear of losing something isn't a justification for opting for something smaller. Either way you lose something if it goes wrong.
Excellent drives, noisy but good quality, I’ve 8 in my Synology NAS for the ultimate Plex and Sabnzbd server.

These huge HD's scare the hell out of me, imagine filling it up (if possible) and it died.. ooooh boy id be heartbroke! I went for a 2tb at i think around 80ish on amazon so this seems a great price for the size.. heat

I've got a few of these, great price OP - tip - make sure you've got airflow as they're a little hotter than the 3TB/4TB reds

If you know what nas mean you would understand it is not meant to used stand alone.
If you are going to USA you can get this disk for £120 from inside the WD Easystore 8TB sold at Best Buy

The one I bought from ebuyer had some serious vibration going on. Felt like back to the bad old days of noisy drives when I stuck it in my test bay. I didn't bother testing the write or seek noise, RMA'd it back.

Dunno if all 8TB drives vibrate so much. I know they are using different tech for higher capacities. Might stick to 6TB Reds as they are pretty solid in or out of NAS enclosures.
I don't recommend buying this drive from Amazon. I recently purchased it from them and it was delivered with no padding. The drive was simply placed in an anti static bag and then in the same cardboard packaging that books come in (see image). There is no way I am putting this in my NAS! Additionally, after checking the warranty (support.wdc.com/war…=en) I found it was only for 1 year, so naturally I have started the returns process with Amazon.

I would instead recommend buying this drive from Ebuyer (ebuyer.com/742…fzx) for the same price. The drive I received from them came properly packed with several layers of protection and has the full 3 year warranty!

What's wrong with that? It's got atheist 3mm of cardboard protecting it.

It may say it has a 3 year warrenty, but it's a 3 year warrenty from ebuyer, might as well be a 3 day warrenty for what it's worth.
Great for mining burstcoin
once HDD mining takes off you'll also see a huge shortage of them

Right now burstcoin has an ROI of 3-4 month of a drive this size
