Does anyone remember the 10,000 RPM WD drives. One of the few instance (like the discontinuation of Concord flights) where technology has regressed.

There is little demand for them in home systems.

WD Raptors and Velociraptors. I had two in RAID0. There were 15k SCSI ones too. But the same gains were achieved by increasing data density instead. Then came SSDs and the game was up for high performance spinning rust.
I have 2tb SSD s now. Cold . Blast from the past .

How much were they though?
Voted hot, although if you don't mind a "non portable" drive, (i.e. with a separate power cable) I'd advise looking for a deal on the WD Black D10 as it is around twice as fast (uses a 7200RPM HGST Ultrastar DC HC520). Managed to get the 12TB version for £199.99 around Black Friday and very happy with it.

I still have my 600GB WD Raptor, little 2.5" drive with the black heat sink around it. Cost me 154 quid (checked my Scan account) back in 2012 😳

I don't. No need to improve hard drives when solid state drives are becoming cheaper per gigabyte and are more reliable.

Yes I had a Raptor in my main rig not long after they came out, sadly didn't last a year for whatever reason. Horrendous noise when it died.
