Stuff it I’ve ordered one
Apparently the drive inside is an Ultrastar DC HC320 which runs quite hot. The 12TB version has a helium-filled DC HC520 which runs cooler and quieter (5.0W vs 7.4W at idle).

That slow review is for 3TB 2.5" portable version which of course will be slow, there aren't any reviews for this 8TB 3.5" version yet but here is a benchmark from a reddit user:
