No the laptop/PC doesn't have to have USB 3.0 on it for it to work, etc.

These thing's are built in a fashion that's known as 'backward compatible' ...

Meaning that a USB 2.0 Device can be plugged into a USB 3.0 Device, and it'll STILL work. :-D

And in a similar vain, a USB 3.0 Device can be plugged into a USB 2.0 Device, and it'll STILL work also!, lol.

USB 3.1 however, is a whole different level of ball game altogether though ...

But as this is USB 3.0, and can only interface with Device's that support up to USB 3.0, I'll not waste either of our time attempting to go into that (on account of the fact that it rather may end up inevitably confusing us both some more, or whatever?). :-)

All you need to know is, this will work in any Device, that supports from USB 1.1 even ... (be it painfully slowwwwww, lol).

So USB 2.0 Device's will be obviously perfectly fine in contrast. :-)

Thanks for that info, much appreciated.

I’m assuming then , eve though this usb 3 drive can be plugged into a usb 2 Mac, i shouldn’t expect the fast transfer of files that usb 3 usually offers?
That’s only between usb 3 and usb 3?

Correct, you need both the devices to be USB 3 to get USB 3 speed. If one of the devices is USB 2 then you'll only get USB 2 speed.
Is this not a really normal price for 2tb external?

Glad to hear your Seagate is still firing on all cylinders. :-)

And you did well with last Year's price as well, by the look's of it? (cue time travel comments, lol).

Ps. IF it comes back down to £48 in the near to distant future, by all means, feel free to Post it up for us here too, etc?.

So that future buyer's can benefit from it also. :-)
