Would never buy a recertified hard disk

Would never buy a recertified hard disk

So why comment? I've got 4 recertified drives from WD and all of them are still going strong, to the point where I probably wouldn't not buy a recert' (unless it was virtually the same price).

Nice find Chanchi (as usual) heat added.

I had one of these before but got rid of it as I thought I could live without one. How I regret that, at this price though I might get one. Great as a back up drive, might need to go with a 1.5tb one this time though as I now have two computers worth backing up.

Last hard drive I bought was brand new and shows no sign of power after a handful of years. Last hard drive in, first out. Recertifieds still going strong.

Been this price for weeks/months no? Always been in stock when I've looked
When it comes to this things am a novice, pls all is it okay for me to get this as I will like to backup everything I have on my laptop into it. Is it any good for the use?. Thanks
All the ones i want are open as tabs in my browser, still no stock for any of the 4, keep hoping for that "add to cart" button to appear, for any of the 4

Last time I checked the 1TB drive was £27.99 so has come down a bit.

Not sure on the historic pricing of the 1.5TB and couldn't see it on site, but seemed good value for £34.99.

Anyway hopefully it helps people looking for a deal on a portable drive.

thanks

Is there any difference between the WD Elements and the My Passport Ultra?

Elements is smaller so it's aimed at bring a portable drive.
My passport has some encryption and backup software so is aimed at taking backups.
Nothing stopping you using them for the others purposes though.

I believe the drive has a soldered on connection in the elements but it's a plug in adapter on the passport (hence the increase in size).

I've had one of these recrertified elements drives a few months now, using it at work all day and at home and chucking it in a bag and it's been fine. Came in a plain brown box but that didn't bother me. My opinion is you can get lucky/unlucky with any drive, new or recertified

If looking to use as Console External, go for the Ultra Passport. If you choose Maroon, you can save £5 on the one above for 2TB. This comes with backup software but this is wiped when you convert for console storage anyway, at least on Xbox.
silly popups on site
I have found the recertified drives have lasted longer then my other drives. I have 4 recertified all about 2 years old and i use them every day and they keep going!
The question I have is , where did they come from? Are they faulty drives have been repaired , or customer returns , or what? Incidentally I have one which is working fantastic . But I would still like to know. In some ways is reassuring because you know the drives have been professionally checked , even if they are old they're in good order and good drives can last an age it seems.

You’re right, I posted it around a month ago and it was £27.99, they dropped it to £26.99 a couple of days after.
I bought two of these at £27.99 each a few weeks ago and shortly after they arrived I got an email with a code for 20% off my next order, so if you want to buy more than one drive but it's not urgent it might be worth just buying one and waiting to see if you get a code you can use on the next one!
I just bought a 1TB HDD, thanks for this deal, was looking for a good storage drive for a while, and this ticks all my boxes.

I keep getting that email - but mine always says outlet & recertified are exempt if you read the small print.

Never had a problem with these recertified drives. Every one i’ve bought has worked fine..

Had a few problems wit WD external drives in past - and they were new. Even though these are cheap, not sure I'd get one.

Cos you said you'd never buy one so I assume you have no experience of them? I don't see it as luck, whenever you buy something new you're still another line of QC, these have been through that =)

Do you mean does the hard drive have a SATA port? As in could you remove it from the enclosure and use it internally in a PC, PS4, etc.?

Unfortunately not, as these are the type with the USB port built into the drive's PCB - they're still technically SATA, just without an actual SATA port (it would be possible to add a SATA port to the PCB if you knew where to solder it, or swap the PCB with one from a different version of the drive, but not worth the effort).

If you need one with a SATA port, I believe the My Passports have them.
