When I first saw the deal pic I thought "ooh what a cool looking fridge"!
I've taken the drives out of this, it's a white, put it straight in my synology 918plus,in all honesty, it depends.on how you use it and for how long and if it's intensive,, Cctv etc.
Mine is set up in JBOD I don't have the raid array, I archive all my things seperately, I don't even trust nas in raid if It is super important, mine has 4 bays, and it comes on at 6oclock and switches of around 230am,,,when the drives sre not being used between these times, it will sleep till someone uses Kodi, or whatever,,
I have all my full blurays and UHD remux, isos, to my shield, its great... I don't need reds, I have one red in my setup, but that was removed from the ridiculous WD Cloud rubbish that never worked properly,, don't buy one of those, they are shocking, i was pulling my hair out, and i don't even have any.

You could do that by cutting pin 7 and 8 on the USB controller chip after removing from enclosure. That would void the warranty for the drive. I’d suggest waiting for the elements 10TB to drop in price as that has no encryption.

Thanks, I don’t get why they even bother with this hardware encryption, as most wont even use it, so just ends up increasing risk of losing data, and for regular users thinking the drive is goosed when the box fails and try to dock it
What drive is in these? Are they OK for a nas?

White label drives which are not NAS rated, but you can probably get away with it. I'm coming round to the conclusion that they might actually be the same as reds in all the important areas, despite subtle differences. I have found my whites to run hotter and reds don't suffer from an updated sata spec which can prevent the drive spinning up unless you tape up the 3rd sata power pin, use in a docking station or use a molex to sata power adaptor. However they look identical apart from the label.

Thanks
I've seen the shucking guides.

Tempted to try one of these in my unraid server. I'd need 2 though

WD Cloud is shocking, bought Home Duo on the cheap but the only good thing about it that disks are removable.

Agreed, I would perhaps appreciate optional encryption on a small drive containing critical documents but on something like this it's mainly gonna be music, video or images.
Why is it expired ???? @badar121 , Please unexpire and use this link to your deal, thanks,

Why this is expired? You can still order it
Thanks. Have ordered even thought it's out of still 18th October. Was a bit annoyed to get an instant notification from my bank (Starling) to say they have already taken the money! That's a bit cheeky if it's not actually in stock at the moment
yes same here they taken the funds when amazon clearly state money is only taken on despatch of the item? so not sure what they are talking about here
Is this the version you can access remotely?

yes, simply don't set a password within wd tools, by default it's not encrypted via the case or drive until you do that anyway!

If only Onkyo did fridges.
damn good price. heat op. thank you. adding this to my unraid server.
Had one for about 3 days, after that it started saying that the disk is not loading properly, 2 days after that it wouldn’t even turn on. Swapped to G-Tech, highly recommend!
I wonder how many people will buy this, removed the hard drive and return....
I take the destroy items away from amazon and it’s always filled with these empty shells after a sale

Amazon let them return the empty shell?

Remember your parity drive has to be or equal the largest data drive in your array (for Unraid)

How long do you run the G-Tech?
These have white labelled WD Reds inside - I have a couple in my NAS - WD don't yet make Blue drives in 8tb or 10tb.
Bought one earlier in year and wouldn't recommend, really unreliable, keeps failing, and is a nightmare to get it to work every time I need to use it I'm now looking for another 10TB to transfer my data over quickly before it completely fails.

In the morning then I get in till I leave so pretty much 8 hrs a day, had it for 4 ish months and it’s all great so far
It's a good price, but that's a lot of capacity to lose if the single drive goes bang.

However, it's more useful than a 4TB drive if you have 9TB of data to put somewhere!
I wouldn’t risk my files with physical drives. Amazon Cloud does the job perfectly.

People have been saying this sort of thing for years.... '128MB USB flash drives, that's a lot of capacity to lose if the single drive goes bang!'... better split it over 100 floppy disks?

Nobody should have any important data stored without a backup.
