It was only £165 on Amazon UK a few months ago so it will go down to that price again. Probably need to buy an adapter to use the box itself if not purchasing just for the hard drive. I'm staying clear from super large drives as my previous WD failed it's like putting your eggs in one basket. If it fails you lose the lot.

Unlucky, but that's why you have backups, regardless of the hard drive size you are using.
Just bought a Toshiba x300 4tb £88 for games, hmm might return and get this!

So technically every drive we buy is twice the price as we should have an equal sized backup

No, you're confusing potential capacity with actual amount of data stored and requiring backup, unless you are intending to immediately fill the drive completely and your backup software has no capability to compress your backup.

Not necessarily.

Whether your data is spread across 1 large drive or multiple smaller drives, if it's your only copy you're at risk of losing it.

If the data is important enough to you, I would recommend some form of protection against drive failure or data loss. This could be in the form of a simple backup, which would require enough storage space to match the amount of important data you have and/or something like a RAID setup offering mirroring/parity. For the latter parity option, you would only need 1 drive matching the size of the largest drive in the array to protect you against one drive failure.

I can also recommend Backblaze B2 for offsite backups

They are 100% single white label 10TB units and have been for ages. Red drives are only found in Duo devices. Black drives won't feature in any.

I thought mybooks where Whites, and duos were Reds

They are.

Depends if your data is critical. If it is, back it up
