8TB Western Digital desktop external HDD, USB 3.0.

These have been hovering above £200 on amazon for a while. Cheapest I've seen them was a few months ago at £176.99, so this is a decent price.

Desktop version, so 3.5" drive and external power required.

Hi Arthur

Hey now
So many recertified units available isn't inspiring much confidence in the WD brand additionally my 3TB WD has corrupted a number of my images.
Do people hate preowned?
Might as well wait. In 6 months WD will offer this as a recertified drive after it fails
About recertified drives why is it an issue.
Surely like me you have your data mirrored across 2 drives. It doesn't matter much then as if one fails you get another drive recertified even and recopy the files and your good to go. Please don't tell me your stupid enough not to back up your files.
Guys over in US seem to be ‘shucking’ these drives to extract WD Red drives (they are always on offer for around $160 in Bestbuy). But really mixed reviews on Amazon UK about these failing, so I am in two minds. Need to stick it in a NAS so wondered if anyone else has done the same (although I think these have WD white label drives)
All my hdd recerts work fine. I dont move them about.

This is a different product. Those are EasyStore and exclusive to BestBuy US, these are My Book.

I'm also interested in popping the HD into a NAS, so would like to know if these are shuckable and what's inside, but until someone has bitten the bullet and done this, we'll have to wait.

Have done exactly that. You're right - they do have white label drives. Details above.
Thanks welshdiver!

Doing a bit of digging around suggest these might be HGST NAS drives, but some suggest the latest be WD Blues.

Bought one in January this year - not a WD Blue - spec as listed above.
Thanks I’m going to order one. Back in stock on 18th. Did you have to do anything to the drive to get it running in the NAS? Reddit suggest a 3.3v mod and enabling TLER?
