It’s gonna get hot it here. Just hope they have enough in stock for everybody.

Super hot! Finally managed to grab one of these. Cheers!

Very good price, I put one in my basket and then realised I don't actually need one! I got a refurb 4gb a week or so back, one of the very small ones, and it was as new so will definitely buy from the refurb store in the future!

Stupidly good price, ordered one/ Here's hoping they have enough stock

How reliable are these?

Good price, personally went for the portable 4TB drive from Amazon for £99.99 for convenience (same price a PC World with family cinema ticket up to £35 promo...). I have a recert 3TB desktop drive for my Xbox One and it has been fine. Heat.

That's what mrs Brown says

This is how i see it...
If WD were selling 1 or 2 of these drives i could understand it, but they obviously have quite a lot of them ?
So this means that the drives were pretty rubbish to start off with so how rubbish they gonna be now they have been repaired!

Out of stock

Which a-hole from hukd beat me to this as I clicked pay?
Then purchased the last 4tb white portable
Thanks....

With the amount of drives they sell, its understandable that so many end up being refurbished. The way they sell their refurbished drives means a bunch come in stock at once, so seems like a lot but then wont be in stock for a while after that.

Basically just don't store mission critical data on them and you'll be okay, its almost half the price of new on sale so if worse comes to worse you can buy another. Personally I've bought around 12 refurbished from them and only hasd issues with 1 in a couple of years.

All 4tb out of stock ...... I cry

Oos

That's what I thought

Worth checking stock on these every Monday, it seems to be the day they refresh their stock. Grabbed one last week at this price and ordered a second as a mirror for it earlier today. The first is in pristine condition, no signs of use whatsoever.

What about the 6GB for £114.99 is that a decent price?

I always get my tb and gb mixed up for some reason! probably because I remember when hard drives were measured in mb...

Nothing special for second hand.

Anyone know if the drive can be put into a PC?
I know the older ones were standard drives but I read somewhere they were changing the drives to a USB controller board instead of Sata (going to a separate USB controller) unless you bought a raid version.

No, Every Hard drive is same standard design with Sata, so yes it can be taken out and used in a PC. There is no hdd with USB or whatever port

This is wrong! About 12 months ago i brought a 1gb portable drive to dismantle and use the drive in a laptop but the hard drive and the mini usb board were all one and the pins from the sata connector and power connections were soldered to the board making it impossible to use it as an internal drive in a laptop

well this one for sure can be dismantled and used as internal hdd as i got the same one and done it. and your portable drive is still a standard sata drive. after doing some reasearch, you are right, it seems there is some really rare case hdd that doesnt use sata. but you are probably going to get one with sata 99% of the time.

The My Passport portable drives all have the USB board I believe. Not sure about their mains powered drives.

A bit more digging backs this up, 2.5" drives have the USB controller built into the HDD board, the 3.5" are standard drives with a USB controller in the housing like always.

From new these drives will fit into a pc after removing the enclosure. But if you put data on them when they are still in the enclosure, then decide to fit them to your pc, you won't be able to read any of the files. This is because of the encryption WD use.

The WD encryption is optional so if it's on just use the WD software (the app is called WD Security on mac) to disable it and reformat the drive before removing it from the enclosure.
