Probably a one off but I like your candor so have some heat.
2GB? Maybe a couple of decades ago that would seem huge, but nowadays... nah.
it is 2TB not 2GB

Well spotted 2TB.....
Got the 3TB version for £68 from the outlet sale a few weeks ago but that only has 6 months warranty so this is pretty good deal for a brand new unit. Perfect for those who just need a simple NAS and don't need huge capacity and/or resiliance. Note that this doesn't have a bittorrent client (you can hack one if you know what youare doing).
ive got the 3tb version and although its notba very fast unit it does fine for backup/streaming movies from. redmandealer any chance of pointing me in the right direction to hack a bit torrent client on this?
Insane price, love mine
I've got the 2TB version and it does what it needs to do. Not the best in its class but it's not the most expensive one either. Recent firmware had improved it a little.

Can somebody who owns one of these answer a Quick question for me?

I was wondering how the "cloud" part of this works? I currently pay £70 a year for 1TB Dropbox, which, if truth be told I feel is expensive, but a necessity.

Does the cloud part of this give you free 2 TB for life cloud storage, and does the WD app integrate into al of your family devices like Dropbox? Or is there a limit on devices and annual subscription after the first year etc?

I'm guessing the friend sharing is probably not as easy as Dropbox either right?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The cloud part means you can access the drive from your mobile device wherever you are. It's like a cloud but it's in your house. Your dropbox solution is better because your data is safe at...erm Dropboxes house!

From the point of view of photos and videos on your phone, you install the WD MyCloud app and there is a setting to automatically back up to the drive. You choose a folder and off it goes, pushes all the photos onto the drive. Simple as that. Obviously for different phones you can create different folders and so on.
Has anyone actually seen this in another store?

Yep, it was in the store I work at but has sold out. This will be national for any stores that have stock left tonclear through. The tech department is having a pretty big range change next week. USB sticks are also heavily discounted at the moment along with Bluetooth speakers etc
Not bad bits of kit. Just get a second 2TB HDD to plug into it and set it to back up

Got mine for around £80-90 off the WD store (recertified)
Asda Wolstanton had none @ 8am this morning (and couldn't see that they'd had any either)

Maybe you can get WD to recertify back their recertify? .. then you can give a lookout for one of these ..... lol. :-)
A reasonable addition to an overall backup strategy.
Yep, £59 at asda chesser in Edinburgh. Just picked one up. One still left on shelf. Thanks op. Heat added.

2GB would be more of a raindrop than a cloud

Pretty good for a Plex server though, keeps everything nice and easy, always on and secure. For £59 it's a no brainer!

This is currently £62 for a certified model on the WD Site. If you don't mind only 6 month warranty and don't have stock in your local Asda Link Here

Good shout. However isn't this just 'refurbished'? Sounds much better as 'recertified' though I guess.
Anyone know how to get the WD Sync app to work properly with Windows 10?

I picked up a WD 2TB MyCloud from the last offer on here and dropped the files I wanted to sync from my laptop to the MyCloud into the WD Sync folder and all worked well - the folders are now available on the MyCloud.

However, the files on the MyCloud are not being updated as I work on them in my laptop, which kind of defeats the object of the synchronising?!

The files are a mix of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Pdf files. My laptop is pretty much always on and connected to the internet via Wifi and my local router (same router the MyCloud is on).

Wow! Totally not as good as I thought it was then?! Thanks for clarifying. I though that WD kind of mirrored your home NAS in the cloud "As well as" local storage. Kind of like the 2tb drive being your local Dropbox folder that just sits sync'd with the WD cloud.

Glad I didn't buy it, back to my search for cheaper alternatives to drop box I guess.

And yes, I've also filled the free 50gb from mega.nz must take less photos and films. Thanks again.

Thanks OP,

Picked one up in Havant, they had at least two DVD cases left that you had to take to the electronics/entertainment desk to exchange for the product so presumably this means they have more in stock (or did have this morning).
Good spot. Just picked up the last one in Gravesend.
There were two in Stevenage but I've bought one of them....

Once you have updated those documents in the WD Sync folder, try closing the files and manually trigger the syncing of files. Those files should be available for you to be accessed again from your smartphone or laptop.
Just been to the Kendal store, couldn't see any but also couldn't see a price sticker for them so they maybe never have
There's one left in the York store - nothing on the shelf, no s.e.l. (shelf edge label) but there was a "WD Cloud" cardboard sign at the back of the shelf so asked if they'd check and there were 3 in the cupboard behind the till - I'm guessing someone had taken them off thinking it was a price error or they wanted them for themselves - unlucky!
1 left in Merthyr Tydfil ASDA. I had the other one. Thanks for the post!
There were none in Crewe at 4pm
What is the barcode? I might be able to ask them to check stock if I had that.
Barcode is 071803781114 on the receipt. Drop the leading zero for what's printed on the box

Ironically 1.5 Decades ago, 2GB 'ANYTHING' would have been a humongous Godsend?!, but now ..... lol. :-)
only for sale in ASDA Superstores. I got one in ASDA Wigan. ☺

Incorrect. They're in Asda Living too if there is any stock left.
Just bought the last one at Coryton but am probably going to return it tomorrow as I think online cloud storage is a better option...

It's 50 50, a few online places closed up or massively upped prices without much warning, it all depends how much you want to store and how important it is to you. You could always backup to this AND cloud storage to be covered both ways.
