So this is stored on the HD & 'up in cyberspace' cloud??
Is more like a personal server which is online all the time and can be accessed from anywhere
Is this not for the 2tb one ?
33163158-BA4e0.jpgI was thinking to buy first time the 2TB but then I change my mind because 3TB was only £10 more by mistake I put the 2TB box on the place of 3TB

No you wouldn’t need to pay for icloud storage with this. You would need to download the WD My Cloud App from the apple app store to backup.

I may not be the most tech savvy guy around, but I don't get it. Is this really 'cloud storage' or just an 'external hard drive'? Or both?
Was looking at this as looks like a good price but just had a quick Google and it looks like they have multiple vulnerabilities....so no good for me thehackernews.com/201…tml
Ill pop into mine today to get one thanks

And you'll also need hours upon hours upon hours trying to get your data accessible before giving up as it's very unreliable. Great for your local network but the cloud implementation is very poor and has security vulnerability too so best to turn off cloud access completely.

This depends. What are you currently storing on your iCloud. £50 is a lot so you must be storing a lot on there.

This is a personal hard drive. The data is in your house, but accessible over the internet. It's not backed up. You can't just use it as your iCloud back up for say iPhone back ups or you photos unless you manually move stuff.

My suggestion would be to use something like Google photos on your iPhone which is unlimited and free. Once backed up, delete them from apple and stop being ripped off.

Look, can you stop going round telling people that this has vulnerabilities. IT WAS PATCHED ALREADY.

It's extremely unhelpful to go around telling people who are not tech savvy inaccurate information. Especially when the are looking for a viable alternative to being ripped off by iCloud (not that I think this is their solution)

Every single iPhone currently has the meltdown vulnerabilities and apple have know since June. That's the same time WD found out about their vulnerabilities and they patched already. Apple haven patched the iPhone yet, should everyone bin them? No.
I've got the mycloud home. Recommend it purely due to the usb side of it
what are the chances of me getting one of these from the Chorley store?

Approximately 42 %.
So if I turn off the cloud side of things, is it safe to use as internal wireless drive that I can access thru wifi?
This deal is only available in one or two stores. So deal does not apply to most of the UK
What do you do if someone hacks your cloud drive?
Dress up as Mick Jagger and sing 'Hey you, get off of my cloud'.
That should scare anyone away.

It's safe anyway. They have fixed the vulnerabilities. Just update the firmware. Don't believe the haters here

Maybe you're the one that needs to educate yourself. The patch hasn't fixed the problem.

If you are really worried, then yes, this will shut off outside access. Also disable port forwarding.

If they have them in stock I would say you chances would be in the high nineties. Watch out for the leaking freezer in the first frozen food aisle, that could knock off 20% of the chance that you would reach the till

No; it is specifically for IPhone backups stated on their website with the link in my first post. Accessible via the iphone WD my cloud app. I haven’t used it so whether it works well I don’t know but the function is one of their main selling points

I think you’re confused. It doesn’t back your iPhone up like the iCloud.

Just photos and videos apparently, not iphone backups. Personally i wouldn't replace my photo backup from a true cloud solution to a single local HDD. If the HDD goes pop, or gets stolen or gets damaged, you've lost your photos. For me, on the phone, backed up to google photos in the cloud (free and unlimited), then synced to my PC via google drive, then synced to my NAS over the network. Redundancy is key. Photos are the most important things you posses.

I'd say its a good feature, as long as you don't rely solely on it

I’m not confused. It clearly states that it backs up photos and videos automatically via the app as stated on their website. If it doesn’t then they are falsely advertising the product. Maybe I poorly explained. Ofcourse it wouldn’t backup apps and other data due to Apples strict data protection and privacy, it isn’t an Idevice after all. I wrongly assumed this to be common knowledge. So yes, to clarify it will not do a ‘full Icloud backup’ but it will back up videos and photos.
