Looks a good deal to me. V1 WD MyCloud 4tb.

Can anyone let me know why I shouldn't buy this for 50 quid?

It's in the Tesco Extra in Middleton, Manchester. There were 3 out on the shelf. Hope that helps someone! 33605190-MquUI.jpg
Woth it just for the drive, as it'll be a WD Red
They are just empty display box`s in the pic . Tesco tend to leave display boxs for things they don`t have more times then I care to remember. These deals would have been snapped up when they first were reduced a couple of months ago but good luck if you manage to find any left
This old chestnut yet again STILL NONE IN CORNWALL !!!

Morning @DannySlev thanks for sharing can you add which Tesco store you spotted this in to your opening post in case it's store specific.
You shouldn't not buy it for that price
Not really a deal as i suspect there's literally just the one, but if you want a basic starter NAS then this is a no-brainer.

If you want a 4TB hard drive to pull out and use in something else, this is also a no-brainer.

so yes, buy it if you haven't already
This is a brilliant price but I suspect it is store specific (hopefully not near me!)
You shouldn't buy it because you don't need it.
I need one
cracking price if you can get it!
Could you tell me if there was any wild geese on offer as well?
Release the geese!

The CPU in these is beyond weedy .. you can get apps in their store but running more than one is beyond its power.
But yes as a basic file store/server its ok v quiet v efficient.
FYI they don't have an on/off switch ....
the disks inside are quite often WD reds too

I voted hot, but I sent my goose to do it for me.
heat from my goose
This is hot but I wanted to offer a critique of the product itself. I bought the 6TB option recently, and it is deeply flawed by design, in that sleep mode doesn't operate properly. The thing is constantly waking up when not being used, which you might be able to live with, but lifespan of the drive concerns me - currently I have to yank the power from the wall, when not using it, which may or not be inconvenient depending on where you store it.

For what it is worth, I had an older version of this drive that didn't exhibit the same behaviour.
Doubt it is tesco wide! Voted hot anyway as it is cracking price.

Also (as I've discovered) the version 2 (most recent) ones can't be powered off except through a pokey WD utility called "Quick View". I realise NAS isn't meant to be turned off, but if you are not using the thing for 20hrs a day.... Would a power button be too much to ask for? Incidentally older version 4 (WD=crazy) ones had a power off button through the web interface (that's something). I get 11mb/s write speed out of mine through a gigabit switch. Fudging slow.
Great price for a 4tb drive. Buy a few and stick them in a HP microserver.
Can this be used as an external drive for an Xbox One via the usb3 port?

yeah middle of bloody no where lol .. most of them got manually reduced in Jan hence why theres bugga all left
Release The Geese!

Just been to a store, just the dummy display models on show. Ah well, I got a sandwich so it's not all bad.
Occasionally they get left for ages, and get reduced down by 90% by head office. I remember picking up loads of 3tb drives for 15 quid each last year.
I paid more than this the other week for a recertified 4tb. £59 I think it was.

Reckon they'll be gone by now.
Anybody could confirm is it national or just specific store deal, hot

where do you live?
I think these are great NAS drives or at least it certainly has for my uses anyway. I have the 3tb model and it's been sitting plugged in beside my router for coming up on 4 years now, it's never missed a beat. Great for storing all my media which means I can have a 128gb MacBook and a lowly 500gb SSD in my desktop and still have loads of space to spare. With regards to navigating in Windows it's no different to as if the drive was physically attached to PC, although clearly slower speeds for copying/moving files.

Too bad I don't have Tesco here. I would get it straight away

London, nowhere near any stores that are big enough to carry this
Got one of the recertified ones for £59 last week. Put the 4TB in my PC and repurposed an old Seagate 2TB into the MyCloud case.

Seems to work fine as a Time Machine backup location, have Cat6 throughout the house and was transferring files at a decent rate.

Remains to be seen if the constant power on causes an issue but as a basic NAS seems a nifty bit of kit.

The only thing I was completely flummoxed at was trying to backup to it using Clonezilla. Tried SMB and NFS and neither were able to send files to it.

And the HP microserver along with valid cashback promotion magically appears...
That's a good price. Last week I paid £80 for a 2TB - was discounted in Sainsburys. Impulse buy and not taken the wrapping off yet. Based on some of the bad reviews I may just take it back
