Been watching the price of 3TB WD Red's since I got my NAS and it seems they've finally come back down to the price they were a year and a half ago!

These are fantastic drives. I wish I was in a position to buy a few more as my assortment of Linux iso's is growing quite large now.

I've got three of these in a stripe in my desktop (i'm aware of the RAID risk - the data is expendable ). It's worth noting that if you buy them direct from WD you get a 20% off your next order code. They say they expire after 30 days but I just got my third drive using a code they gave me back in February making the drive £79 and got another code for next time. So it might cost you more now, but if you anticipate your storage needs growing, it might be cheaper to buy direct using a continuous supply of 20% discounts after the first one.

Lack of competition keeps prices high.

Lack of competition keeps prices high.

True, I think I paid £70 odd quid two-ish years ago for these. I'm not knocking the deal in any way, but it shows what an noncompetitive market does to prices.

Been after another red for a while and prices haven't dropped in years so I bought one. Europe always seems to get overcharged for drives you can buy a 4tb external in the US with a red inside it for $75

That is a good idea to be fair...
I've just cancelled my order after I discovered that I can get 20% off the WD store using my NUS card which brings the drive price down to £89

Unfortunately, only 10% discount discount is showing on RED 8TB drive when bought from WD store. Amazon sells it, as of now, for less than WD store with 10% student discount. Ridiculous.

yea the only one that is cheaper is the 3tb. The outlet or refurbs are not reduced either. I feel like its worth paying the extra few £ just because amazon customer service is the best. Its only worth it if you get a 20% discount voucher with your order which someone else mentioned earlier in the thread
