This deal is in support of the abilitynet charity. You do not have to donate to get the 1p price, but I did choose the £10 donation myself (total £10.01).

I am making my own webpage for the first time and they have other really cool features besides the industrial level storage and bandwidth on offer for so little money.

Firstly, they include Serif Webplus X7 for free (normally £60+). A slightly fancy WYSIWYG page creation tool. So you don't need to do any coding at all.

Also, they have a promo for spend £25 on google adwords and get £75 extra credit free.

I should mention that this does not include a domain name (although they sell those too). You NEED a domain name to point to your web host. I got one of those fancy new top level domains ".me" for £6 for the year. I even got my own full name .me because there is not as much competition. Overall I think it is pretty cool. I am using it for a personal page about myself to sell my skills while I job hunt and quite frankly I think the price is amazing. I paid £16.01 for a year, you can get it for £6.01 if you are not feeling charitable.

I think this would be perfect for others like me and also for those thinking of starting a web shop. The X7 package has pre-made shop templates to help you out and also there is a free 3 month web payment processing promo from SAGE as part of the package.

Enjoy!

This offer may be limited (they aim to raise £15k, so far they have raised £1600 or so).

EDIT: Still seems to be going so I have extended the offer for another week. I will try to keep it updated and expire it when I see that the promotion is over.

I have no idea why it is cold voted. I think it is crazy good.

I cant think for any reason to vote hot, price isn't everything! LCN has quite bad reviews.
i think that all clients that will buy hosting for 1p will end up on one OpenVZ NOD powered by quad core atom ;P
at this price it will be massively oversold.

Well they have a 91% recommended from over 220 reviews here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews236615.html

Most of the complaints seem to be on price and on advanced functions that I certainly won't be using. But fair play if you think they are "that" bad.

Also I think this is a limited time offer (first £15k in donations) so over-subscription is not something I worry about.

Personally I only need it for a year or less (hopefully). I would shop around for another host if I was confident I could find it for less than a penny. I doubt I will so whatevs. Also for a penny the webplus X7, £75 adwords promo and 3 months free payment processing I think it is a no brainer for a person trying to setup a web presence for the first time for a business/craft.

Haters gonna hate.

thank you bigbrian1 for this noble effort to educate me. I will look more deeply into it tomorrow. I can't understand the cold votes either.
I think for job searching, selling unwanted items, advertising community events etc is a true bargain. all I can see are positives.

You can currently get the webplus for £10 at serif's website (no postage if you choose download) and only £9 if you use discount code.

Great price for hosting none the less! Heat!

Dude, I think that is a hot deal in itself! I might have to add that too!

I might not ever use it, but for 1 penny, who cares? I even donated a tenner as well.

Hot from me. :-)

This is a decent offer, no problem with that. They do regular 1p offers but not at this level. I wouldn't use it fort an high traffic site but for a personal blog it should be fine. I've been managing and building sites for over 25 years and at the moment have hosting in 4 different places. It's a good deal, I wouldn't bother about the google voucher, you can get that or better most places and beleive me £25 won't last long and won't do you any good either (you will be spending £75 also). For £17 you can get cloud hosting similar which includes a domain name.

Also for the software, forget it and installl Wordpress.

Thanks for the advice. I think you got the google deal the wrong way round, spend £25 and get £100 credit. I might give wordpress a shot but I am a total noob and the X7 templates are pretty decent. I am proud to have got a slider working and stuff. I heard that the compilation of the code is meant to be really well optimised in webplus X7.

I have web hosting with these people and it's so slow it's unusable for anything other than static HTML pages.

I am a little concerned that there seems to be some less than stellar feedback, it just seems that there is a lot of good feedback too. If you could tell me the package you have it might help to decide if it is worth it. Is that the business hosting package?

Ho yes sorry, don't know what I was thinking of there I just see lots of these codes. In fact I used to hand them out free as a google something or other agent.

Good luck with your site, I didn't mean to detract from your efforts and any learning is good learning and should help you along the way. Feel free to contact me if you get stuck < thats not a sales pitch.

We use LCN for our charity clients as it is free to them. Great customer service. Being a shared plan it will run slower than if you were on a VPS or dedicated server obviously. I have solid state drives on a couple of dedicated servers and the speed is blisteringly quick. With hosting you get what you pay for. No complaints about LCN but don't be expecting great speeds on a shared plan. Heat added.

I'm looking for another hosting site to put my 2 websites up on, and this looks good.

Great deal and I have been with LCN for 3 years now.. Excellent web hosting and always good quick downloads.

How easy is to cancel the hosting before it gets renewed (Which would be £50 + VAT)?

There is a auto-renewal control on the web control panel you simply set it to off.

That's for a business hosting package, but what about a non business hosting where I want to put my own website up.

I just spoke to someone there, and yes the business hosting still applies even if not a business. For me if I want to just upload all the data from my own machine they said it would be £28 plus VAT until the end of the month and then it would be £36 plus VAT.

So I'll pass on that, as I am paying that now with another hosting company.

Well it is only the business hosting package available for 1p. I think it is very easy to change web hosts in the future if you have a local copy of your website. You would simply link your domain name and re-upload to the new space.

I'm not sure I want the hassle of doing that in another 12 months. Yes it might be easy, but I'm not sure just yet.

Anyone who has ever hosted a website will realise this is a hot deal. OP was not suggesting it's a business level investment, but for a hobbiest you don't get cheaper and it's for a good cause.

Let's crank up the heat

Hot.

Good luck in your job search.

I started my site with LCN on a £0.10 or a years hosting sale 6-7 years ago, took me 4 years to move the website to a VPS because I was too lazy. Still, was only paying them £80 a year and the traffic I saw/there reliability was good.

Only moved as they got a bit bitchy about HDD space towards the end. I was way over my quota but... The auto renewal is annoying, every year LCN get cheaper/at least price changes. If the same package is now half the price, and I mean standard price not an offer, you still have to pay the price you signed up with.

Webplus is ok to get started but it often creates horrible code & has other idiosyncrasies that cause problems. School I used to work in used all Serif stuff for their DIDA course & the time I'd spend fixing embedded links etc because the software handles things in such a cack handed way....

Having said that it is easy to use and it is a good deal HOWEVER if you're getting into Web design work I'd be looking at learning a cms like WordPress, Joomla etc the add ons etc you can get for WordPress now are staggering and you don't have to code anywhere, plus if you want to play with it you can setup a free blog hosted by WordPress. If you want a professional install you can install WordPress on your own hosting & domain.

This is what we do these days, cuts development time down to choosing, buying or designing a template and uploading it to your install & applying it. Can't recommend it enough especially if you just want something that works & don't want to learn.

Heat added to ops deal.

PS Serif video editing program is absolutely BRILLIANT I'd actually pay full price for it, works flawlessly

Is this cPanel hosting?

Just what I needed for my first small business idea, got a domain name for 2 years and business hosting with donation for £17. Cheers

since there's mentions of WordPress I'm assuming this going to be PHP / MySQL on a LAMP stack with little more than a web control panel and FTP access.

Can anyone confirm / deny? non-*amp hosting at this price would be ace.

I built a site using LCN last month for a client who suggested them to me after seeing the low prices. Whilst it is cheap, it is very very slow to load pages, especially if you are planning on using Wordpress with a few plugins. You get what you pay for, and I have voted hot as their hosting is definitely worth around 2p. So that's a 50% saving.

I have only ever used LCN for .co.uk domains as they tend to be among the cheapest (and I migrated across when they bought out Telivo). Best off looking on webhostingtalk or maybe lowendtalk for some reviews. This is undoubtedly good value for the money, but I'd personally rather have a low end VPS for similar (see: lowendbox) money per year (£50+VAT). Shared hosting (i.e. this) is ideal for the beginner, however.

I'm with NorthHosts UK (http://www.northhosts.co.uk), got a 3 domain hosting deal called the professional package for
£2.50 month

This is a good deal though

The wording in the post seems very marketing oriented. I mean for someone creating their first webpage you seems to use quite a few buzzwords that someone non-technical would be using like the industrial level storage. The adwords promotion is a little peculiar, as is the talk of a 'fancy new top level domain' for a .me domain, which is anything but fancy and new

Also, aside from that, anyone considering using this for actual business purposes they should be aware that LCN don't have 24 hour support. So if your site goes down at 2 in the morning or even on a Sunday/bank holiday don't expect any support until they get back into the office. I had a couple of clients that I put on LCN a few years back and didn't realise this until it was too late unfortunately.

Based on the fact they don't mention the number of domains on the business hosting plan, but have a 'multisite' plan for £8/mo I'd guess 1

I liked the fact that they charge the same amount of money on renewal. Where hostgator is just ripping off.
