disabling the webcam is free



it is, but if we are really "going there" even if you disable in bios or device manager, allegedly it can still be enabled silently, this is why edward snowden used a physical bit of tape/plaster over it - and he should know

Viruses can enable the webcam including making sure the red webcam led doesn't turn on.
Covering the webcam is the only sure way of ensuring no unauthorised use occurs.
