If you cut the grate on these you can store chimney starter, charcoal, tools and firelighters all inside for ease of carrying if taking it away with you somewhere

Posted this video as shows where and how to cut the grate, but there are other videos on youtube showing better storage options as well

you can get the Weber Compact Chimney Starter for £17.77 currently on Amazon amazon.co.uk/Web…/?t (edited)

In case anyone else purchased this from JL in the past 28 days, they just price matched and refunded the £15 difference.

When you sign up for account there is a box asking you to input your email for promotions etc. They then send you an email with 15% off 1st order. You might need to call them to get it applied due to item being in sale but they were excellent on the phone and just applied £10.50 refund

Do yourelf a favour and try and find a second hand one which wasn't made in China.......these new ones are terrible and will rust if you so much as look at them.

Hi Davester2k, miss you and your insights, wouldn't be the same without your Weber comments

15% off code didn’t work but they applied it retrospectively via the phone. Wasn’t straight forward, wanted loads of proof of code and tried to say it only applies to subsequent orders

Is this as good as the same model that I bought about fifteen years ago for about £100?
    Gadgetdeals's avatar
No, these are now made in China and lower quality, and yes I have one, a Chinese one, and it just isn’t as solid as my old original one.

Any tips on charcoal for this? I've had great success with restaurant grade lumpwood on my big bbq at home but it seems this requires something else, maybe briquettes? The food is too close to the heat so either you put it on too soon and it burns in a fiery inferno or too late and it fails to cook.

I think I've got it right one out of 4 goes. And even then you can't go in for round two of cooking.

I use Weber briquettes. How I usually bbq on it is I fill the small Weber chimney, put the coals either side then cook indirect in the centre. Does a loverly spatchcock, becoming our first night camping meal

Ok so recently bought this from millets, I was hoping to buy and utilise their price promise but ultimate outdoors is a sister company. Although, I was assured that I would get the 10% difference on the item because they are the same company -they would only price match.
Couple of things I had to do to make it livable. I sliced the grill in half and also had to cut the two end prongs off the coal grate on one side. That enabled me to lower everything and create space for the necessities. Other than that the vents at the top need pushing out slightly from the inside otherwise they scratch the lid. Happy to update after first cook

I was tempted but this signup for orders not working and not applying to everything put me off

Also I noticed in the video it has nice side handles, in the sales picture, no handles! (edited)

No, it would be a tricky move that as you'd have to unclip the legs from underneath while the bbq is scalding hot and flip them over the lid.

Thanks sotv, would love one but can't justify it having one of the mini Aldi kamados. Unless you can think of a reason I can give the missus....
    hel1984's avatar
I am the missus of a BBQ enthusiast and despite him already having a large kamado, small kamado, two large Weber's (I'm sure they are the same but one is black and one is red?!), a small Weber, a smokey mountain, a 12" Ooni, and a 16" Ooni, he still persuaded me the other week that he needed one of these He said once it's modified, you can fit so much inside and it's easier to transport then his small kamado which is still really heavy. So he said he needed it for when we go to France and go camping so it doesn't take up too much room in the car.

Thanks for this Sotv, my amazon order arrived yesterday and it looked like a truck had reversed over it and parts were missing. Returning today but they didn't have a any in stock for a replacement so this is great.

Some nice mods there, seen the riser set on Ebay for it, for £60 that folds up flat, they look good. What rotisserie are you buying that fits with this may I ask?
  17. nutley's avatar
Might have to return my JL order and get this one instead
  18. Jezzaroo's avatar
This is an amazing price! As others said, cut the grill, buy the compact chimney starter and some small tools and then you have a complete bbq kit in one hand!!
    Gadgetdeals's avatar
I think if you remove the coals grill the chimney starter will fit in without cutting the grill, maybe someone can check.

I'm off to the US for a 4th July party, saw the gas version on Amazon US there and was tempted but reviews are not great, seems the new Chinese versions are not up to standard and the gas version is a hell of a job to clean, but for £72 was tempting, check reviews here amazon.com/Web…8-4

Wonder if student discount would work on this
    HarrisonC's avatar
It doesn't. UniDays, Student Beans, Blue Light and Defence Discount all don't work.

If you purchase and then call them and say you want to use your 15% off first time buyer code then they can do a partial refund.
  20. HBomb127's avatar
Don't forget Topcashback for 8.5% back...
  21. S555's avatar
So what's the lowest price this could be obtained at?
  22. mooch's avatar
Just ordered through TCB. Code didn't work, so called up to ask for the discount and was told it does not work on sale items.
