Just bought GT9600 yesterday at PC world for 104, in an Emergency

Very nice price. Paid £160 for my Gainward OC'ed version just 2 months ago.

I bet that stings..!

What a deal!

How much of an improvement would I see going from an 256mb 8600GT?

Depends what your playing. But if you are a gamer it'll make a large improvement in framerates (especially at higher resolutions).
These cards can be OC'ed a fair bit too, as long as the cooling is decent enough.

Massive improvement would say this is easily twice as fast, excellent cooler too.

Anyone in the market for a 2nd hand 8600gt :whistling:

Great card for the price, the HD 4770 retails at around £80 (new card) and doesn't offer quite the performance the HD 4870 does. So for the extra £20, this truly is a bargain.

If you miss this one though or it is above your budget, I would recommend the 4770, especially if you can get it less than its £70-80 retail price.

Fairly solid performance for a wide variety of stuff at very high resolutions

See the Toms Hardware page for specifics: =on"]HD 4870 Results

I read a report a few days ago that novatech got hold of several hundred Sapphire cards for cheap from there supplier, OCUK weren't very pleased about this! The cheapest vid cards are on novatech

This card is miles faster than an 8600gt! Make sure you have a power supply that can power it though - you'll need one that has 2 PCIE power connectors.

Nice card but make sure you have a power supply that will cope & some way of providing 2x 6pin power connectors.

My psu is an Antec 430 watts earthwatts psu

Other components are

Core2Duo E6750
2gb Ram
2 dvd writers
1x 250gb hard drive
1x 500gb hard drive
1x 750gb hard drive

Will it be able to cope with a 4870?

I think you are below the manufacturers recommended power supply but it is up to you.

Do you have the two 6 pin power connectors?

If your power supply is this one antec.com/Bel…A== then no - you only have 1 x PCIE connector.

Does the card not come with a 2x molex to 1 pci-e adapter?

I would suggest that if your power supply is less than a good brand name 550w+ you should seriously question whether this is for you.

Power supplies more than 2 years old are unlikely to have the right connectors although some adaptors are available - if not cheaply.

Ok thanks for the advice.
By the way how noisy are these cards?

Excellent - was holding out for a 1gb card but cant justify £30-£40 for an extra few fps.

Bought and hot.

I think I will give this one a miss. Plenty of xbox games still to play

No once you add the shipping its £106.99 plus the Novatech card has
a better cooler on it.

Not sure if they have made many friends in the graphics card industry. I'm sure they are good in terms of sales, but allegedly a couple of years ago they slagged off a few big brands for being rubbish in their forums; when trying to promote a new brand they were stocking. The post was later deleted from what I understand, for obvious reasons.

it will work fine

i have the 330 earthwatts psu and it has been running fine the following for about two and a half years

C2D 6300 overclocked
8800GTX GPU (very power hungry)
250GB HD
2GB RAM
and the other usual stuff

you will have no problem with the 430 earthwatts

they state stupid watts just to take into account crap PSU that state 500 watts but can only realistically do 200-300 watts on the important voltages.

just cancelled my play order for a 4770 and ordered ths instead. play once again have took 8 days without processing my order. glad they didnt as this is a miles better offer. Overclokcers foums are saying that the OEM card (HIS BRAND) mentioned by someone else for £96, should/needs to be this card!!! seems overclockers best they could do was the HIS OEM 4870. 1 year support i believe

That brings back memories of them tit-for-tat pricing with the now defunct theoverclockingstore many many years ago. Alledgely got quite heated on the forums over it and was one of the reasons why they clamped down so much on mentioning of competitors. Of course that was really before deal websites were popular and deals from competitors had an audience of thousands not under their control.

Forget about the Overclockers deal because Overclockers suck. In the past they have both lied to me, and itaken money from my credit card without permision. Just search for user reviews and you will see they get the lowest ratings of any "established" etailer.

The Novatech deal posted here is worth paying the extra couple of quid for.

I agree,

Overclockers are TERRIBLE. I phoned up customer services with a incorrect order and the person on the other end was incredibly rude.

Also i want to add that novatech are brilliant. when i ordered a 9600gt and it didnt work in my system they accepted the return without any problem... even though the card was fully working and it was my system that didn't allow it to work.

Hi,
I don't know if this is worth me getting. At the moment I have a 500W arctic power PSU.
Im running:
C2D e7400
4gb ram (2X2gb)
2 sata hard drives
and ide 1DVD drive
7300 LE GPU
Will I be able to power this card without need a new PSU or will should i just go for the 4770. I am not exactly a hard core gamer, i tend to play games on my xbox 360. What do you think i should do?
