Going to be slightly pedantic, and say that the price isn't £0.01, since it needs at least $1 to get Steam keys, which is the only way of getting the games.

Actually, judging from some people that frequent this site, that's probably not pedantic...

There is probably 2+ years of moderate gaming in just terran conflict alone, I haven't tried Albion Prelude yet although I have bought it previously. Going on what I've read of previous iterations you will only really want to ever play the latest iteration both because it is superior but also because you will have more than you ever need out of one version alone. Unless someone proves anything different you are really just buying one game here.

My summary of X3 would be it has its flaws, the UI sucks major balls and there are many unpolished parts, to your average gamer the 7.0-8.0 Metacritic ratings are probably just about right, but if you love your Civs, your Morrowinds, your Xcoms, your Eves, this game is the stuff of legends you will remember forever.

You could go for the $1 option and if you like it enough then you can return to your download page and top up another $5. Just click where it says "Like what we're doing? Click here to increase your order amount!" It will add the extra keys. You have a week to decide.

Current exchange rate on Paypal for those wondering $6 = £3.86

I loved the earlier games in this series but rarely got very far into the main story - far too engrossed in building my empire, funding larger, faster, more powerful spacecraft and building space stations to make my millions

Good price to pick the whole lot up, and now I don't have to worry about things like Starforce which were on the original disks for X2.

heh, was thinking of skipping this because $6 sounded a bit high for a game I had no interest in playing, but thanks to your comment I bought it anyway. For £3.86 seems like a decent enough deal.

For anyone curious, this comes as 2 keys. 1 for core games and 1 for bonus games,

Its crazy what the bundles do to your thinking. When you are questioning £3.86 for top quality games. I do the same, still had to go full bundle though

X2 was my new Elite/Frontier - awesome game, found x3 a little disappointing because 2 was so good

Even if you just get the minimum package, you can have plenty of fun just building up a massive spaceweed and whiskey complex in Presidents End on X3

Be warned though, although these games are huge in scope they have a very steep learning curve. Get on the forums for some excellent "noob" support to remove some of the frustration!

Bizarrely I've got X: Beyond the Frontier, plus all the X3 stuff already, but not X2. 65p to complete the collection? Might as well.

I tried x2 or 3 a couple of years back looking for something to top freespace 2 and realised it wasn't really the same genre, it's very uninviting on 1st impressions
  18. PurplePerson's avatar
The amount of time I sunk in to X2 is just stupid... hundreds of hours. It was (and is) epic. Not for everyone though and the slow start will put most people off. If you're a bit **** and don't mind a somewhat slow paced, space based empire building game you'll love them (I do). The long term support from the developers is brilliant as well.

+ 1. I want the best introduction to get me hooked, so I'm happy to start fro 3 and work back but if it's worth starting from the beginning I would be open to it.

Excellent series, given days of my life to these. Thanks OP, voted Hot.

(And for those asking about where to start, I'd just go for the most recent as it usually has the best ai and most features - usually egosoft incorporates what the community made/suggested into each new release)

Buy mines, everywhere. Run some contracts, buy a huge ship with the biggest guns possible. Prosper.

Fantastic price! obviously trying to get everyone hooked before the X Rebirth release in November which I have waited many years for. These are excellent games (if a bit buggy in places). I am buying, even though I have most of them all already, just for the Steam keys.

I'm afraid this one isn't tickling my joystick. I would like to invest in it but I don't think the time needed to get into will be worth it on account of me being rubbish at hard games. For that reason, I'm out.

Nope not the only one, I have previously seen a few videos, and initially I thought it was a fancy looking rail shooter like Starblade, but the comments on here seem to indicate it's more like Elite/Frontier, which is on of my all time favourite games, very tempted!

EDIT: Well, guess I'm not eating tonight. lol

    Hot deal

I bought the terran war pack (X3:Terran Conflict + Albion Prelude) last july for £5 (in steam sale), so all of the games for $6 is really cheap.

egosoft are releasing a new version called X Rebirth, should be out November

X Rebirth will be released for PC in Europe on the 15th of November 2013

Some preview videos of X Rebirth can be seen on the egosoft youtube: youtube.com/use…nel

If you have a card that offers a good rate without penalties (e.g. Santander One or Halifax Clarity) you can pay in dollars and get the Visa / MasterCard rate which is always significantly better. Doesn't make much difference for this but it knocked several tens of pounds off my last big Paypal purchase (booking a Florida villa).
