I just read a very brief review that said this can control "all your sockets and appliances to your wifi", is that correct? I thought it only connected the appliance directly plugged into the wemo switch.

only the appliance or appliances plugged in to the Wemo. also if you do buy it immediately carry out a firmware upgrad. My honest opinion is that these are buggy and over rated but this isn't a bad price.

You can control all if you have one in every socket (faceplants onesself)

I have ten Wemo devices seven off them switches and very few problems over a two-year period.

You could plug in an extension cable and switch this on and off

Thanks all who replied. Does get a little pricey to have one for each device, maybe I could live with a snake of extension cables trailing through the house!

Argos have the TP-Link Smart Switch reduced to £16.49. Not sure if thats a better option for the price?

I have one Wemo Switch and a couple of TP-Link switches. It took almost an hour to setup and get the Wemo working (software is glitchy) but about 12 minutes to get both TP-Link ones working (all three with Alexa).

Having said that, I recently updated the TP-Link software and my newly purchased TP-Link switch is refusing to work. :-(

Have been looking at both, which one would you recommend (for Alexa)?

I use these and they work absolutely fine. Will get another one I think

For ease of setup, I would recommend the TP-Link ones but both work fine with Alexa once setup and connected.

Just to add on previous post, I use these for more intelligent timing on lights (e.g. Bedside cabinets) as we are out all day. Also for Christmas tree lights. We use the bulb for outside light and the linkage to sunset etc is brilliant.

I have never had an issue with them or the software barring at the start which I think it is because the software initially was buggy.

Had this and returned it, got the TP Link plugs and have been spot on

I've just invested in a Dot and I like the idea of this whole connected house thing, but £30 for one plug to switch something on and off? I think I'll wait until the prices come down a bit!

Around October I got two TP-Link switches from Amazon for £34. This became a Best Seller and shortly after was unavailable. Since just before Christmas, they've been selling the exact same switch for @£34 for one!

Shameful rip-off as you could, if you could find any, get them at Argos for @£18
