same here, but i can never find the right page on amazon's site, can someone post a link or direct me please?!

According to ]MSE........

If you've bought from Amazon in the last month read on. Amazon do a price promise where any item you get from them they will refund the difrence if they alter the price in the next month. Doesn't matter either if some of the items you've got have gone up in price.
Just check your account - past orders - click on items ordered in last month and email customer care if there's been a reduction.

250GB for £59.99 here ]http//ww…179

That's a powered desktop hdd markwillis. This is the 2.5" usb powered portable one.

bought one of these for £77 before xmas, its awesome. still only on 60gig. haha

At that price, i tohught it was a steal.

do i buy another for work? hmm.

I got one of these before xmas for £80 and they are brilliant - just plug in and go. plus the speeds are very good for USB. wouldn't be without it now. seriously considering getting another one tho...

Got one off the last deal, will see if Amazon sump up the price difference. The little blue light on it is too attractive to my 1 year old though, keeps trying to grab it when its connected to the 360.:)

Nice .. I bought two at £69.99 very recently -- around £9.50 to claim methinks

In the words of Alan Partridge ... CASHBACK!!

These drives are ace. Love 'em

Worth noting that Amazon have started to sell a 160gb version of the 2.5" WD passport .. although their stock always shows "due in 4-6 weeks"... but the price for those is dropping -- think it's about £109 at the moment

Original Poster

Hehe Been watching those 160Gb's too ;-)

At this rate, thay could make about £85 maybe soon... Roughly half the price of their capacities...

I emailed Amazon earlier, and here's the response.......

Dear Customer Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.
The discounts we offer for items on our website do vary from time to time. I've checked your order XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX and found that we now offer a greater discount on "Western Digital 120GB Passport V2 External USB 2.0 2.5" Hard Drive" than at the time you placed your order. We are only able to adjust the price of an order in instances where less than thirty days have passed between the date on which an order was dispatched and the time that an item is reduced in price on our site. I have therefore requested a refund of 9.75 GBP to your payment card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were charged and the current discounted price. The refund should appear as a credit on your next bank statement. Completed refunds information can be viewed when you visit Your Account once you've received a confirmation e-mail from us. Under Where's My Stuff? click "Go" next to "Open and recently dispatched orders" and sign in with your e-mail address and password. The refund information will be visible at the bottom of the relevant order's summary page. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience or concern this price change may have caused.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

Bonus!

Thanks for that cutthroat_jake Very useful ;-)

just ordered one. It is a very competative price. I wish it was a 7200 RPM disk

hi there very intrested in one of these drives.

just wondering does this suffer from transfering large file over 2gb to the hardrive. asking because some will not allow large files to be transferred and i use a lot of large files.

thanks

@masterwai
that sounds like a file system limitation, not hardware.

sach1636, powered by USB? i don't think that exists yet

anyone know what the reliability on these is like? i ask because to take it untested around the world and find it no worky twould be.. bad

I've had 3 of these, the silver ones though, for about 9 months now, and they've been all over the world too, and the're still going strong.

... these drives arrive formatted as FAT32 and before first use you can format to NTFS which will allow storage of files over 2GB. This is what I have done and I have had no issues and regularly copy files over 4GB.

Do any of you guys know if this will work on a pc with only USB 1 ports?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah It should work fine with USB1.1 but it will be very slow for transferring big chunks of data.

Might be worth adding a USB card to your computer, if you can?

Has anyone found a carry case for sale anywhere?

Excellent drive but mine gets clattered around in bags etc, needs some better protection and cant find the Western Digital case for sale anywhere (is online but ships to US only)

Also anyone know the difference between the V1 silver drive and this V2 black one?

Excellent - with nearly 20gb of music alone my 60gb hard drive in the mac powerbook was looking small. Now I can take it off the hard drive and the external drive and put it all on here - cool !!

Thanks for the feedback all

Welcome to HotUKDeals Youngy ;-) Sorry I don't know if there's a specific case for this.

Maybe something like a Nintendo DS Lite case would cover it?

Presumably the bare drive costs more than this? Amaing deal.

So you say FAT32 will not allow large file transfers?

Hmm so converting to NTFS will mean only compatible on a PC not Mac.
also when converted to NTFS will they still work when plugged into a dvd to vew pictures movies?

thanks

Purchased one of these as was looking for one.

Very good value for money. Even the same brand 80gb versdion is £63 so for an extra couple pounds you get an extra 40gb. WOW how do they do it. you think its a mis print.

thanks anyway for spotting it.

nope, a quick look shows 120GB 2.5" drives around £50:
lambda-tek.com/com…172
digitalkind.co.uk/Inu…721
(i recommend DigitalKind, great personal service)

but i think the shell, software and delivery is worth about £15

The Digitalkind come to £71.77 inc vat & delivery.
So not as good as this deal.
The drive itself is £61.08 when you add the Vat.

As per my basket below.....

WESTERN DIGITAL
Passport Portable Hard Drive Usb 2.0 Ext 120gb 12.0ms 5400rpm Black

Weight : 0.71 lb (0.32 Kg) GBP 54.58 GBP 54.58

Delivery Charge :

GBP 61.08
VAT 17.5% : GBP 10.69
Order Total with VAT : GBP 71.77

Regarding the refund of the difference between the price I paid last week and the price of the drive now, here is the email Amazon sent me.

Select refund enquiry and tell them a product you bought has now dropped in price. The next day you should get a nice email back confirming the refund

@GreenGem
i didnt say you could definately get the bare drive delivered for £50, i only had a quick froogle. i bet with some more searching or other items to spread postage or to get free postage you could - so the value of the drive in retail is about £50 to 55 now, so this WD package at £65 is merely in line or slightly ahead of the market, not a "great" deal (its really only their free del that makes it good imho). i bought one because it saves having to put it together, i think the WD case is nice, and Amazon always has good service for me with partial refunds and the like

the DigitalKind recommendation had nothing particular to do with this sorry, i liked them because they only charge 2.50 postage for small items like network cards, they sell bulk items individually, they accept paypal, and theres a guy who replies personally and quickly.. sorry for being off topic

I just don't like thinking that people who are not up-to-date with the rapid price drops on components might jump on what they think is an amazing deal when it really is just ok.. be cool and buy what you need when you need it is the cost effective way (i've learnt the heard way!

I don't think the value of the drive is £50... the lowest I could find after looking at the usual suspects is a 120GB WD 5400RPM OEM from eBuyer for £58.59 shipped.
