Been pondering over the Seagate 1TB also available on Amazon for £64 at the weekend, too - would anyone be able to advise which would be the more recommended drive (i.e. due to usage, reliability, etc.) to go for, for the sake of £1.01 difference?

Voted this one hot anyway, by the way

I have a few WD HD's... (my Studios)

Great little workers.

Also look at the Iomega 1tb for £61.74 with voucher 5HD from Comet (reserve & collect), if you have a Comet near you.

Wow cant see me getting that many. Although my itunes and old computer is now full of downloaded spongebob squarepants...bl**dy kids.

I think I am going to wait and pay a bit more for a USB 3.0

Good deal but I prefer to get one without seperate AC adapter (ie USB bus powered).

Yes, but you won't get a USB powered one to this kind of size. ^^

Basically someone will reply to you saying how they had 3 Seagates fail and someone else will say about how WD drives break all the time bla bla. In truth reliability is fairly random.

These look designed for the Apple crowd.

I was told the other day (on the above link) that elements drives fail due to poor controllers. My elements failed in a week but I wasn't sure if it was a widespread problem or not.

I'm debating getting an external HDD or an internal one (they're both similar prices for 1TB). External will be more convenient, though internal neater and (I guess) faster.

Will internal (SATA I believe) be much quicker than external (USB)?

I'll be accessing / streaming films (inc HD), pics and music.
Thanks in advance

Internal one would be much quicker at transfering data, and the connection way more reliable than usb, but like you say not as convenient for moving around. My advice - fill your PC with large fast drives and get usb ones as well:)
