Also worth considering:

PATA DRIVES

Maxtor 160Gb, 2MB Cache ]£25.83(16.1p per gb)
WD 160Gb, 8MB Cache ]£27.96(17.5p per gb)
Seagate 320Gb, 16MB Cache ]£45.88(14.3p per gb)

SATA DRIVES

Hitachi 320Gb, 16MB Cache ]£44.88(14.0p per gb)

(All prices via google-checkout, super-saver delivery.)

NB The first post (WD 2MB 250GB PATA drive) works out at 14.0p per gb. The Maxtor 2MB 250GB SATA drive works out at 13.6p per gb, the WD 8MB 250GB SATA drive works out at 13.9p per gb and the Samsung 8MB PATA drive works out at 14.5p per gb. My personal recommendations would be either Seagate for the 5-yr warranty or Samsung for low-noise and performance, ideally with as much cache as you can afford.

what 1 would you reccomened out of the £34-38 ones?

Sata!

Antj - I guess it depends on how you are using it. If it is just being used to store media the cache won't make too much difference, if it is your main OS drive then I'd go for a better drive. You could try the ]WD 16Mb cache drive which works out just under £38 delivered, or alternatively the ]Seagate 8Mb drive is a similar price but has 5 year warranty. That said, Maxtor are now subsidiary of Seagate and have 3yr warranty which is still pretty good and works out a few pounds less. Samsung drives are perhaps the best at the moment overall in terms of performance, quietness and warranty, but not stock at 250GB at Ebuyer (in SATA) at the moment.

it is to store my footage off my vids and music ect and irt must be quite!

bloody things loud enoff!

I think I'd probably go for the Maxtor @ £33.89 then.

Go for the samsung they are very fast and quiet.

I would suggest a Western Digital would be more reliable.

I hate the prices of hard drives, you find a good deal then an extra 20gb for a little more, then another 20gb for a little more... end up buying about 200gb more than you originally wanted

Saves buying another one in 6-12 months time though
