Manufacturer's Description
Pack up your office files and take them home. Carry thousands of songs or pictures. These drives are simple to use, light and easy to carry, and require no power adapter - they are powered directly through the USB cable
Installation is a snap because you don't really "install" this drive; you just plug it in and it's ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in. Powered by the USB bus, so no separate power supply needed
This ultra-portable drive fits easily in your pocket or purse, weighs only a few ounces and holds tons of valuable data

anyone know if these area sata or ide inside??

Oooh suits you sir!

nice find

Go through studentmoneyback.com (not just for students, open to all) and get 3.3% cashback at amazon. You do have to earn a fair amount to reach the threshhold at which they will let you have the cashback paid out to you, but as far as I'm aware they are the only people doing cashback for amazon so in a way it's money for nothing and especially good if you're a regular amazon buyer.

greasypalm do amazon:thumbsup:

will this work ok with an iphone ?

if you mean will it connect to the iPhone then no.

:thumbsup:Nice find, I've grabbed one too through www.wepromiseto.co.uk for first time, heat added. cheers

awwwwwww - it's pink. I need one for keeping Ghost images on for work, but I can't get a pink one! Still a hot price...

You know you're a man when you can buy pink

Good price, well spotted, here, let me warm you up...

Hot price!

Paid 120GB one more than this price one year ago.

Very good build quality and reliable!

If this is the same size as the 160GB version, then an ideal companion product is Design Go's All-In. This is a padded pouch with belt strap and inner pouch for usb cable. It really is a perfect fit - I know because I've got both. And, if you are a guy who would rather not let the world see you've got a pink hard drive, then you can use the WD without having to take it out of the pouch! I got mine from Debenhams for £8.99 and therefore, didn't have to pay the P&P.

Black and white versions at £70 for any guys not comfortable with their sexualality.

good price despite the colour. i have the black one but paid bit more.

Excellent price! Do they need a power plug or not? If not.. awesome deal! :-D

Little HDs like this do not need one, however they DO require the USB port to REALLY provide all the power the spec says they should, some don't.

Hot pink price. I got two 320GB black ones for £99 a piece just recently.

I just got one of these in black from PC World for £54 but the 160GB, does anyone know where to get cheap case for them?

Might be just me but I am on my third WD external USB drive - previous two were faulty - but I only found this out when I wanted to retireve stuff I had backed up! :x

This was the Elements range so at the cheap end watch out!

Hmmm...very interesting. Would be really good for me actually on the road where I do a lot of video work and photography.

Could anybody that has one of these though tell me, does this still need to be plugged into the mains at all? I know it says just to plug it into the USB port but all those external hard drives ive seen so far have all required an external electric mains supply?

Thats for the 3.5" jobbo's that have a desktop hard drive, these are 2.5" jobbo's with a laptop hard drive, the usb leads have two usb connectors at the computer end and one supplies power and data transfer the other supplies a bit of extra juice, the one I use with my vostro laptop doesnt need the extra power though even when running off the battery.

These devices are powered simply from the usb socket. Indeed, my WD 160GB passport can interface with my sony car stereo (Sony MEX BT 3600u) via the usb input!

In Argos, there's a 500GB for £65 reduced from £99 (its not WD but a company called Maxtor basics, also its 3.5 inch not 2.5). Black in colour, so for £5 more, i get 500GB instead of 250GB and black colour, however of a lesser-known brand and an inch thicker. Any suggestions/comments to help me decide?

Doesn't say though whether it needs external power.

The one in Argos requires an AC mains adaptor whereas this 250gb portable drive will fit in your hand or pocket and only needs a USB port to supply power for it to run.

Thanks, also my laptop has only one working USB port left now. Do you know if one port would be enough, I've seen some drives that have a cable that needs to be connected to 2 USB ports in order to get enough power.

mine only uses 1 usb

Does anyone know whether these are SATA or IDE drives inside?

mraconnor;2137190

that's because yours is only 160gb, anything above 160gb usually comes with 2 x usb plugs.

I expected it to come with two, but it only has the one and works fine on that.

PC World have a black 160gb for £51-47

I need an answer to this question too.

If IDE, not such a good deal. Quite an important question I feel.

Just got mine delivered today, more purple than pink.
On the back of the box, it states " A special cable is available for the few computers that limit bus power"

Anyone able to find a case for this?
