Yeah but that's a Seagate.
Very reliable drives but they really do run far hotter and are a bit noisier than the WD green drives.

I would rather have faster RPM

WD has better warranty and would be better for a NAS or Homeserver, in my opinion anyway.

Extra years warranty is definitely a deal sealer at this price

Good price but I will wait until they are around £65 in a couple of months.

Banned

Western Digital over Seagate any day of the week.

Will this work as a backup drive for proliant as the external I have is incompatable. I can put this in an enclosure

A good drive and decent price, I have three in my Mac and one in my daughters TimeCapsule, no problems with them.

I got this for £57 around 2 months ago but this is still a very good bargain.

I'd rather have a long warranty than speed. However i have the FAEX 1TB Black caviar drive which tbh isnt very fast, at reading at least.

The 3TB version of this drive is writing at 80-90MB a second which is perfectly fine.

I don't think most people are going SSD --- I bet it's under 10% of the market.

Do they? I have the Barracuda Green 2TB and it's currently 25 degrees (keeping in mind that ambient temperature is currently 22 degrees, that's not very hot). Then again, I have a separate SSD as a boot drive so the HDD is only in use when listening to music/watching films.

Most people who buy an internal hard drive are building a PC themselves - and I bet most of those people now choose SSDs.

Doubt they only choose an SSD. SSDs are still too small and expensive, chances are they'll buy an SSD to boot an OS from to reduce boot time and then use a HDD for storing non-speed-essential programs and media-- in which case a 5400RPM drive is suitable.

Good deal but still a bit on the expensive side for me.

I paid £50 for mine

But that was before the massive hike in prices - nice drive for mass storage; e.g. HTPC etc.

you have to have a wd drive in your pc for it to work. I used the free software acronis downloaded from the wd support pages but then put the wd20ears into a nas drive with a new wd20eax and put a 1tb seagate back into the pc as storage (OS is on M4 SSD) and acronis wouldn't work saying there wasn't a wd drive installed

Good to see the wd prices are now coming down but they are way behind seagate in coming down. its not like it is new stock as the picture shows 4 platters but maybe an old stock photo

Do they?

Yes, in my experience.
I decided not to use a 1tb Seagate Barracuda in an enclosure because it was ridiculously hot compared to the 1tb WD green HDD I had spare.
Both were only used for storage & reading films & music but the WD one didn;t generate any discernable heat at all, the Seagate was noisier & ran very hot.

I'm still holding out until these get back nearer the £50 mark. Only paid £50-£60 for my last two 2tb drives (before the massive price hike after the flooding).

Which was my point (the person I quoted was saying that 5400rpm is too slow)

I've used 1tb WD green and black drives to boot (XP & Win 7) from, both perfectly acceptable at it and I know the difference between 5400 & 7200rpm is really not very much.....you sure you're not just blinded by the spec numbers?
Lots of people are.

The free download for Acronis works as long as there is a WD disk attached to the PC (either by IDE, SATA, USB, firewire and eSATA). So I would image most people would have a new or old WD disk lying around so the PC itself need not have its main disks as WD. However a WD must be attached at time of starting Acronis.
