WD Scorpio delivers best-in-class performance with low power consumption and cool operation. In addition, you'll get one of the quietest 2.5-inch drives on the market with real-time data protection technology to help keep your data safe.

In a notebook drive, silence is golden. WD's exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. Optimizing the way a drive seeks for data also aids significantly in saving power. So now silence with longer battery life is golden.

WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear and improved non-operational shock tolerance

Will this fit any SATA fitting laptop ?

(Dell inspiron 1501) My laptop

Bought this a few weeks ago for £70, still its a good drive and works well in the PS3. You can mp4 your DVDs and have a DVD library on your PS3

Yes, any 2.5inch SATA notebook drive will fit any notebook that has an existing SATA notebook drive. 2.5inch SATA is and industry standard and so all drives for this purpose has to be a set physical size with screw holes in set positions.

woot! ultra hot!

Nice ordered one for my macbook to upgade the 250GB that it's already got, thanks.

great, anybody got a link on how to fit a bigger drive to a ps3...

google is your friend, basically backup game saves to memory pen/external HDD, remove old HDD,replace new HDD, format (you will be prompted), restore games saves

Google it, plenty of guides.

Hot, just ordered one of these for my ps3, i can now fill it up with my divx videos,mp3's and photos.

Most important thing to bear in mind is, the screws in the PS3 are really really really tight (can't emphasise this enough :w00t:), so be careful you don't strip the screws

The 7200rpm 'black' version of this has just been released which is quite a bit faster. That's the reason for price drop. 500GB 2.5" 9.5mm drives appearing too.

Nice one I want one for my PS3 so I can stick the old one in my laptop

Not true at all. There are two main sizes of 2.5" SATA drives: 9.5mm tall and 12.5mm tall. Most are the former and these fit most laptops. The Hitachi 500GB notebook drive is 12.5mm tall and many slimmer laptops, such Apple's range of Macbooks (except the 17" Macbook Pro) cannot accommodate these.

This WD drive is 9.5mm tall so will fit most notebooks. Just be aware that only the Samsung M6 Spinpoint among the 500GB drives arriving on the market will likely fit your laptop.

That's a great price. I've just bought a new laptop to use primarily for work, which includes video editing which takes up a hell of a lot of storage space. It's got a 120gb hard drive and sadly that's not even enough space to comfortably edit one project (once Windows and other software is installed), and I often work on more than one project at the same time - in fact my desktop has a 1TB hard drive that is currently almost full with 5 separate projects. So I was going to add a second hard drive to the laptop, as it has an empty bay, but I would need to buy a caddy for it first (£10-20). I reckon selling the 120gb hard drive and buying this would work out cheaper than buying a caddy and adding a 200gb hard drive! So hot, hot, hot!

hi does this void the ps3 warranty in anyway i still have 2 years extended warranty left from game on it thanks?

I upgraded my PS3 hdd earlier this year with a maxtor.

IT DOES NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

Sony actually encorage it and it also shows you in the manual.

Out of my 320gb i have about 195gb left

Shouldn't think so as you are not disturbing any warranty stickers and it mentions how to do it in the manual.

thanks i think il treat myself to one of these im gonna need one soon anyway my 60 gb is 3 quarters full already with game installs and saves plus psn games

I bought the 250GB seagate 5400 rpm 3 weeks ago at £50. To be honest I prefer seagate as has a 5 yr warrenty compared to 3 of other manufactures. My previous HDD was seagate and I have found them to run cool and quite, although I should of held out for the 7200rpm versions of the 250 & 320GB harddrives. I have find the problem is heat, my new harddrive runs 3-5oC cooler when idle than my previous 100GB 7200rpm seagate and 7200rpm HDD's tend to generate more heat.
Also the seagates have the G range.

Expired; as now showing £71 :-(

Is the 12.5mm height a recent (as in 6months or so) addition to accomodate 500Gb and larger 2.5" SATA drives?

its back to 59.99
