Even if you don't buy from Amazon, the consumer reviews often provide enough information to let you know if you are wasting your time/money on a particular product.

BFN,

Right im going to buy this now. How does google checkout work, and who do I do quidco with??

Forget it, found out how to do it, and 0.1% quidco is an insult lol

i'd buy if this was firewire :-( i really can't imagine the horrible slowness of transferring 500gb over usb2

anyone know of any deals on enclosures (as i have a 250gb sata doing nothing) that feature firewire400 or better still fw800/esata?

or has anyone tried swapping in a different drive in these wd's - are they sata or ide?

i thought people were saying quidco actually tracks at 4% from ebuyer...it just says 0.1%

Ebuyer are also bad at payingout via Quidco aswell! I lost some payments from them and quidco couldn't make them pay!

Thanks for the pointer. I have been waiting for a good deal

Ohh and I didn't forget the very generous 0.1% from eBuyer through Quidco!!

Thanks to fanpages, who kindly listed all three versions of MyBook 500Gb. I myself recently purchased the mid-range Premium, being used to the Firewire speeds and ease. It came to £104.75 (original £116.42 incl VAT) from Jessops with voucher codes, as posted in HotUKDeals. I had been looking for 500 Gb disks for awhile now. Advantage was being able to pickup at store without incurring delivery costs, just make sure you have your purchase printed, I had to argue for the online discount as their store in Islington did not seem to register.

On the performance, so far so good. Only complaint is once they spin down from unuse whilst your puter is still on, it takes awhile to get them up again. I worked around this by turning off the power plug (the on-off button is a little daft) when not in use, and plugging it on before puter startup if I wanted to use it.

I can imagine as the box itself is sealed it might not be useful if you wanted to rescue the HD should one of the ports goes kaputs.

My next purchase would be the reliable Lacie Porche drives. 4+ years and many digital videos later, (touch wood) it's still problem-free!

Hope this helps

hey does anyone know if this has a on/off button? thanks

Hi crackle999,

It's the circle with blue rings, in front - press for on/off. Mine doesn't respond - I'm told you're meant to install with their provided software, which I didn't as I use a Mac and formatted it suitable for Mac volumes.

Oops. That explains why mine doesn't respond! doh!

cheers

I have 2 HFS+ Premiums attached to my iMac. Install the WD button software otherwise the capacity gauges won't work (and they are an approximation). I never use the on/off as they mate so well with the iMac..
