I have two of these and they are excellent.

I paid about £54 each for mine so this is not bad (although 1Tb prices are dropping)

...and going back up, and dropping again.

Can this work or be reformatted (easily, I'm not very good with computers) to work with Mac?

sickly sweet

Yes. Using Disk Utility on OS X (it's built-in).

I didn't have to do anything with my Mac - I just let Time Machine run and that sorted it. Great deal by the way for a great hard drive.

Same price at pc world and currys. Picked one up today.

Same price at pc world and currys + Quidco

Western Digital Elements 2 TB External Desktop Hard Drive is £88.50
amazon.co.uk/Wes…8-3

The Curry's Pc World deal is prob slightly better if you factor in QuidCo, but returns with Amazon is easy if you get a problem.

i have 2 of these amazon.co.uk/LaC…1-6 but i am thinking of changing to something different now

can someone with good knowledge tell me what one is better? should i give the western one a go?

Very good for the price - Does the job and silently too.

Almost tempted to get another...

Thanks for the help with mac question, I'm very tempted but was hoping for one of the smaller more portable (sleeker) ones - pure vanity X)

I got one of these when Tesco were flogging them for £45. Great drive, very quiet. The only very slight disadvantage is the lack of an on/off switch, but for me that's not a major issue.

I also got this when it was £45, it's well built but extremely slow if mine is anything to go by.

are these USB powered and would they work with usb ports on Samsung TV's?

Great deal but limited having to plug it into the mains

Ive had one of these for a while now, and they are great. I think i paid about £50ish

WD have never let me down!

Stompa

Yes but when you power off your PC / PS3 they power down anyway!

I have one of these, how easy is it to remove the drive to put in my server?

Picked up the Tesco offer like Stompa above. All the style and aesthetics of a 1960s communistic-bloc housing estate but a good solid drive - no frills, reliable and effective.

Has to be worth a punt, heat added.

True, but I'd still prefer to be able to switch it on/off independently of my PC.

money monster

It's a 3.5" 'external hard drive', so mains powered. It is only the 2.5" 'portable hard drives' that are USB powered.

No idea about your TV

Just need one of these to backup my PC then remove not leave permanently connected to PC and only connect when I need to back up more stuff.

Would I be best with one of these or the 2.5 USB portable external devices.

Also is this as good as the Iomega drive at comet hotukdeals.com/dea…345

Also this keeps going up and down in price. Currently showing as £46.99
