Voted hot, seems like a good price to me.
Also, thank you to the OP, for sharing the deal. Hope you're not discouraged by the forum members who vote cold without offering any explanation!

i thought this was good why the cold vote?

Yes, why are people voting this cold. It seems like a good deal. This seems to be happening a lot on HUKD nowadays. Can't the mods check out who these people are who are giving cold votes to items within minutes of them appearing on the forum and without any explanation whatsoever despite the deals beings pretty good.

Yes agreed - lots of cold voting for no reason less than spite.

Perhaps the reason people are voting these good deals cold, is that they are attempting to ensure that less people actually see these deals as a bargain, in the hope that it will increase their chance of a purchase.

Other than that, I can only think, they are spitefull eejits, but surely that won't be the case

not bad, i'd been looking at prices for a SATA 3.5" caddy to team up with a 1TB samsung spinpoint at £88 or so from ebuyer, and about the cheapest is £15, unless i get the £9.99 usb dongle thing that has no case (it connects PATA/SATA/2.5"/3.5"). i'd prefer the samsung drive as it's one of the fastest around. i already have one, but i was considering getting a second one to have a proper backup of my existing drive

Cheapset I can find for this particular model, although there are (slightly) cheaper 1TB USB external drives out there.

How did you get away with not paying the £6.55 carriage?
It comes up at £104.08 delivered, for me.

Alternatively, ebuyer have it at £96.55 and that does have free delivery. ebuyer.com/pro…877

the Western Digital one looks much nicer & more compact than the Seagate. Anyone have any experience of either of these drives?

SuperEd

good price voted hot

i have the 320GB version of this and love it

In terms of reliability, this is quite poor. Very cheaply made drive. You are better off buying an enclosure and an internal drive for it for longer (often 5 year) warranty. Maybe that is why people are voting this cold.

We've used several Western digital drives before and ive found them to be more reliable than Lacie's! I think this is an awsome deal (and it my first Hot deal)

Heres some product info ;-)

yes, western digital is not reliable, give it a couple of weeks and load it with a bunch of stuff and its gone baby gone.

I've got 8 internal and 4 external Western Digital drives ranging 100GB to 1TB in size and 6 months to 7 years in age and none of them have ever shown any sign of wear whatsoever. mus_ne, you're full of it.

I've had problems with WD's as well. Very loud and hot.

i won't vote either way but I will say this is a better deal.

Posted on this before. My personal experience matches many I found when searching forums - WD drives are unreliable. I'm on my third one of these and its broken - just like the others. Royal Mail like the warranty traffic, WD send out refurbed rubbish until you go away. Currently being ignored by WD now I am asking for help again.

Definitely cold.

I work in TV and we intensively use hard drives for storing hi-def and uncompressed media, and i'm afraid to say out of all makes, the Lacies are actually the most unreliable to date! the drives are fine but the unclosures fail!
