Voted hot, would like to see the RPM of the drive, but not listed on the website.. I'm guessing 5400 for that price?

Doubt anyone makes 250gb 5400rpm drives, I think they are all 7200 now. The usb connection is probably the limiting factor though.

Will be 7200rpm. Prefer the MyBook for a bit more personally...

You can get a 320gb ]Seagate USB2 drive for £51.71 if you use the Google checkout and super saver delivery from Ebuyer?

Cheers

Have a look at the Western Digital Support site here and here where you will find that it is a 7200 rpm drive.

Note that this drive requires an external mains adapter (supplied) and is not a "portable" usb-powered drive.

The drive is supplied formatted using FAT32 so if you want to use it for backup or have other requirements that might need to write a file larger than 4GB, you will need to convert it to NTFS. Here is a Microsoft article on how to do that. Basically, in a command window type: convert [drive_letter]: /fs:ntfs

That SEAGATE one you posted looks like a portable radiator:giggle:

thanks. just ordered one

will it work if i dont have a usb 2.,0

I thought it looked more like a Jawa Sandcrawler to be honest

:-D

But another 70gb for £1.72? I'd still go with the Star Wars prop!

Never heard Of WD "Elements" before..great none the less for the price..considering it..any in firewire at all.

This drive was recently on "special offer" at Maplins at £59.99 (now back at £79.99)
maplin.co.uk/Mod…8m4
and is also sold by PC-World at £56.74
pcworld.co.uk/mar…392
So I would suggest that the Amazon price is nothing special, but just reflects the fact that they don't have the overheads of maintaining a nationwide retail chain.

BTW - USB only, no Firewire. Annoyingly as well, the single power/activity light is at the back where all the cables and sockets are. So you can't see what it's doing unless you have the ugly end on view.

will it work if i dont have a usb 2.0?

It should has it is backward compatible to USB 1.1

is it worth getting?

Small price drop to £47.88 delivered!
