Fantastic deal. Hot!

reliable...lol!
have 4 wd disks, used to be a fan of their supposed reliable products (old ones were tho, new ones arent). 2 have failed within a year of purchase (mind you my lacie 320gb ext drive last

my 320GB version of this drive is fab and its a great price for the 400GB H&R added

Great drive this and does the job. I'm currently using a friends to transfer some data. Just to note that this drive gets very hot so if you do buy one then keep it in a well ventilated area.

Have 250Gb version - great drive ...

It Nice!

this has external power yeah?

Is this a 2.5" HDD?

am i wrong to think this is rather expensive. Comet sold a iomega external hd with a internal seagate hd 500gb 3.5" form factor like this one for just under £50

Is this a 2.5" drive?

I'm not sure!

Boxed-product Weight: 1.8 Kg

Well, it isn't a 2.5" at that weight?

The price is good for 2.5", which is what the photos show on Amazon. But the specs suggest a 3.5" drive.

Infact the price seems a little TOO good for a 2.5" drive ... ?

good deals too. This deal is still good value for money, HOT!

Well if it's 3.5" then it's cold. Considering the 1TB Iomega from tesco.

I bought a 500gb early last year for £60. so ... ?

Might have to return my 250Gb Iomega from Tescos.

But first can someone please confirm:

1. 2.5 inch ?

2. LED status light ?

3. drop/shock protection ?

4. 7200/5400rpm SATA ?

Thanks

has to be 3.5" hard drive. Look at the user reviews on amazon. Some are from 2007. 400gb 2.5" hard drives werent too common back then. My guess anyway,.

If you can use this drive (or any external / fanless drive) in Vertical position rather then horizontal it will run a lot cooler as there will be much more surface area exposed to the open air.

This is True, so why is this deal hot? It seems people are just looking at the product and clicking hot cause they like the product these days, instead of voting for the price, this price is not hot.

Isn't saying that you can get 500gb for £5 more exactly Not the point of this site?

I.e. Here's a Product at the best price you can get THIS PRODUCT - is that a Good deal or not...?

Saying you can get a 500 Iomega might seem good - but consider perhaps the person who has one of these WDs on their desk and wants another to match - this is a Hot deal for them. Likewise, I only use WD My Books and Passports, so a deal on one of those (whether they were the cheapest drives overall) would be voted Hot by me.

(A: Wow an 8ft Trampoline for £x - B: yeah, but you can get a 10ft one for £5 more, cold - A: but my gardens only 9ft long...)

On a side note (and this isn't a dig at an earlier poster, just a general observation) every hard drive thread contains "Well these are awful, I've had 2 of these fail on me in 3 months, even worse than the Last type of drive I had which lasted 12 months before it died" and so on. What ARE you all doing with your drives? I've carried 2 different portable drives around with me back and forth to work for 6 years, and have 4 different desk based drives that are switched around and used for all sorts. Zero Fails. No lost data, nothing. Makes me want to go out and buy every make of Drive just to see if Any of them fail... Could be just me of course, Is there such a thing as being 'Data-Blessed"?

Think the point is that you can't get a Western Digital 400GB or 500GB for this price or a fiver extra (nearest I could find was £58.59.....does that not make this one HOT?).You pay extra for better drives.I wouldn't buy some of those cheaper drives. In my experience Western Digital have always been spot on HDD's.

Just to clarify that this is a 'normal' sized 3.5" hard drive which requires a separate external power supply.

I too, can't get excited by this - despite the argument over 'lowest price'.

This is very average IMHO and WD would certainly not be on my list of hard drive manufacturers based on previous bad experience....

That's what I thought until I bought a 500Gb took 1 and a half months to get a recertified drive not good enough as a replacement for a 2 month old unit imo.

I also bought the Iomega from Tesco after much consideration and looking at deals on here. Still pleased with it for £38 as it does all I want and at 250GB is enough storage for our needs. Very stylish design, easy to use and sturdy - I wont be taking mine back!!!
