Is this bus powered?

will this power down, once the ps3 is switched off?

I don't think the PS3's USB ports supply power when the ps3 is switched off so it should do. I can test it for you in a bit and post back if you want.

No need, your right.

Seagate Freeagent Pro is still a better buy IMO.

Great deal, USB powered and so easy to rip the drive and swap for any laptop drive. Woohoo

good little drive but it shuts down if idle for 10 mins, kind of annoying when im using it to play wii games. Its also got my music collection on and if it sleeps then trying top play a track in itunes does not wake it up. I wouldn't buy it again as you are not able to stop or alter this stupid shut-down feature.

Personally for an extra 12 quid, I'd buy the Seagate one from Ebuyer - 1Tb too so double the capacity
ebuyer.com/pro…844

Amazon sell the 1GB version for around £53 (was £50 for a very short time last week).
i think the drive inside is a WD green, 5400rpm so its ok for external/backup drive. but for desktop drive 7200rpm is better.

Well done for comparing a 3.5" mains powered HDD to a portable 2.5" usb powered HDD.

Also well done for recommending Seagate (pile of trash) over Western Digital (much more reliable!).

Good deal, am buying!

Can these be formated in order for the ps3 to recognise it as a internal drive even tho its external

Wut?
If you plan on using it externally just format it to Fat32...

I just bought one of those Seagate drives - you've just panicked me! Are they really bad? I only want it to hold pictures, videos and MP3s as a back up rather than for everyday use....

It might have a non-standard interface, so no, possibly - but why would you want to? It's about the same price if not slightly cheaper to buy a 500GB 2.5" SATA and just whack it into the PS3, rather than dismantle the case of this one.

Thats a 3.5" desktop external drive, the deal here is for portable - more expensive.

You mean 1Tb and I think youre talking about desktop drive too. This deal is regarding 2.5" portable drives.

edit: I see its been said already, but worth mentioning again for all those who don't know the difference...

I know why you would want to do that and it isn't possible unless you use this, but then you would need a SATA drive and not an ext USB one.

Ordered last night, on the way today, "Wii Flow" will be happy, as will the lads

This is a great drive I have one for my ps3, it is only £2 more instore at curry's and pc world for anyone who doesn't want to wait on postage.

Amazon also has this drive for £44.99, S&H included (make sure that amazon.co.uk is the vendor, as others have it at a higher price).

the reason that u would want to remove the drive from this, and put it in the ps3, is so u then have an external caddy to put your old ps3 drive into.

anybody know if this is a standard sata drive inside this??? that can be put in the ps3

This needs to expire - now at 54.99 at Play
