there's a flaw with your idea, the one you suggested is a DESKTOP version while the one in this deal is a portable version. for those people who want a backup storage just for the home and it wouldn't be moved around then not a problem, however for those that want it for a laptop/etc and will be carrying it around then there is a major problem.

When people use the word portable for a disk drive it means the format that is a quarter of the weight with no additional transformer. Therefore the pricing point is difference so no fair comparison is possible between the 3.5" and 2.5" format.
Purchased, thanks OP. Much prefer the 1TB 2.5" HDD which is USB-powered, rather than the 2TB 3.5" plugged into mains.

its backwards compatible, you're unlikely to find an usb2.0 portable external 1tb drive for much cheaper.

Good price though you can't rip out the drive to use in a laptop or rescue your files if the connector brakes
