Not as good as my deal the other day (Toshiba 1tb) but this is a better hard drive, and has auto power off etc. Definately still a bargain. Just use voucher attached (newbie75)

Definately recommend these drives. Have a USB and the world nas version and quiet, fast and excellent service.

yes because its over £10 cheaper

Only if you are a new customer, dealextreme88. In my deal every customer could spend an extra £10, which got them £20 credit to their account. So you could look at it as 2 items for £83ish (excludes quidco) assuming you'd go back for something else.

Regardless, funny how these ratings work

Don't forget 6.5% Quidco!

Good price and good deal,But is anyone else a bit apprehensive about these ever larger hard drives, I had a 500 gig go down last week which made me really, really mad, I couldn't imagine how upset I would be I lost a 1.5 or one of the new 2 gig Hard Drives.
And just as a side note, the returns system for Samsung Hard Drives is brilliant, Just sign in to the warranty web site, Get an RMA, Print it off, Stick it in a box with the Hard Drive, Send it off, Get new Drive. I signed up last Monday night and sent the Drive Tuesday morning and got a new drive back the following Tuesday morning, It's a quick an easy system like that which means I will try and stick with Samsung Drives in the future.

What's generally the best thing to get regarding these drives? I have less than 1TB of information at the moment, but want something just to back up all of my stuffs too... maybe plug it into a media centre at some point... am I better off with this drive, or the passport drives?

Will they drop in price any time soon also? I'm in no rush, but £77.99 seems like a bargain!

Western Digital are also very good with their in warenty RMA system ive found anyway

Got one of these from Currys at xmas - great drive - fast too! Of course I've not had any problems, but I'm sure that if I do that I'll change my tune about it!

Had a few of these, nice drives and look good too.

Had 1 go down a few years ago the warranty covered it, however you have to have the full replacement value charged to your credit card, until they receive and have checked the old drive, I ended up phoning Holland to chase my credit, but all was sorted in the end.

i've got the older 500gb version and it is great, much quieter than my previous external drives too, heat added

Terrible deal voted cold, good Ext. HDD. I paid £63 for mine 4 months ago from the Comet website using reserve and collect @ store.

Ordered, since I need some extra space anyway, and I'm a fan of the WD stuff.

i bought a Toshiba drive for £69 and I have had no problems with it,
AND its pretty much silent compared to any other drive I have bought in the past...

stop slagging off my drive =P

Bought one of these from Comet a while back and it is a great drive...use it everyday with my WDTV and it is very quiet....thinkin of gettin another one myself.

anyone know if this is mains or USB powered? Im after a 1TB USB powered drive.

Mains powered m8.

Do you have a time machine handy so people can go back in time and take advantage of that deal then

I posted this in the wrong thread, so will repeat it here, thanks to the OP

£77.99 delivered. Bargain. Just starting to run out of space on my old 500GB MyBook so this is perfect.

anyone know whats inside? (western digital, obviously, but what kind?)

Whats better about this compared to the iomega one at Tescos?

I ask since the Tescos one I bough last weak is dead already and going back tonight but none left in stock.

I can order a replacement online for collection next week though and would still be able to take that back if it goes tits up again but if I order from CD Discount it wont be so easy. However as I am using it for the PS3 mostly and the Imogea one is not only silver buts has to sit in a cradle/stand this one looks like it may suit the application better.

These use the Western Digital green drives from memory.

is western digital the best when it comes to hdd?

ganon, AC powered only. Western Digital currently has the best reputation for hard drives in my view. It used to be Seagate but they've recently had some major issues.

Nice price! : )

out of stock. was about to buy one as well.

fek, back to Tescos I guess then

got two of these drives and they are brilliant! got one for £85 at pc world about a year ago and got one for £72.99 from cdiscount using £15 off voucher, very happy!

Now trying to work out if worth the extra 15 @ PC World for this drive or just go back to Tescos for the Imogea one... being able to take it back to store is appealing considering last one went phut.

Can mark this as well expired - no stock for three weeks by which time the voucher given will have expired (confirmed by email this afternoon)

Got mine this morning. I already own several of these MyBooks and this 1TB has improved my opinion even more. Even quieter than my others = silent essentially.

I deleted all the crap that was on the drive. Registered online wdc.com and it comes up witha 3 year warranty (2 year on the box label but I think that's because this is a mainland European model -UK residents seem to get a better warranty deal on many products). Only slight negative is it uses a mini USB socket [on the unit only] which is fine but it means I can't use any of my usual green lighted ones

£5.72 tracked with QuidCo too so a great deal, thanks again to the OP.

If anyone wants a similar quality drive for under £80, Amazon's just dropped the price on the 1TB Buffalo www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001ER6CIW
