Wow.... looks great

Would love 4 of these for my Terastation Live!

Cracking deal, I bought one of these a year ago for £100, works really well very reliable.

You will always get conflicting opinions but in my experience these are excelent drives.

online price 71.60

.97p is stock clearance. You will find this in some stores if lucky. O.P. which store did you buy?

If anybody finds any at Madford Business Park aka Arnold store PM me or pick me one up the people that know me. Thanks:)

they had 3 in the stock room, might not put em out till tomorrow too.

Also good for the wii as ive just tested it

was also thinking its probably a SATA drive and a 1TB SATA drive is usually over £50? might be an idea to get it just to had a cheap TB drive..

I've got a 640GB one of these that I bought about 18 months ago - no complaints at all. Good fine OP.

Damn shame id have had one at that price.

cheap as an internal drive if you remove it from the casing

Paid £50 for the 500gb one a while ago, works perfectly well still.

Good price, but most likely store specific...

They are around £58 minimum these days...gone up a lot since a year or so ago :?:Super hot for those who can find one! I would have got all 3 if I was the OP. Easily around £50 profit from the two spares

I got one and went back for 3 more

to remove the casing on these i think the best tutorial is probably ]http//ca…ive

Unfortunately don't think this is the same drive as its a blue LED not a silver line on the drive

Probably very store specific.

I bought this for £125, 2 years ago, good price although probably considered slow by today's standard, I expect most drives to start dropping like crazy with 3.0 emerging.

If it's possibly store specific - so what. :viking:

It's a good deal and the OP kindly alerts you to the fact that you may be lucky and be able to find one at your nearest branch... the OP doesn't guarantee that every person in the UK will be able to get it at this price or you can punch his Grandma for free does it. :w00t:

For those who don't know about usb 3

Isn't USB 2.0 fast enough?
Well, yes and no. USB 2.0 for many applications provides sufficient bandwidth for a variety of devices and hubs to be connected to one host computer. However, with today's ever increasing demands placed on data transfers with high-definition video content, terrabyte storage devices, high megapixel count digital cameras, and multi-gigabyte mobile phones and portable media players, 480Mbps is not really fast anymore. Furthermore, no USB 2.0 connection could ever come close to the 480Mbps theoretical maximum throughput, making data transfer at around 320 Mbps - the actual real-world maximum. Similarly, USB 3.0 connections will never achieve 4.8 Gbps, but even 50% of that in practice is almost a 10x improvement over USB 2.0.

I can play HD off my mem stick ok in my ps3 so I'm not sure if I'll rush out for a 3.0 drive and just buy the usb 2.0 at a good price

I can see your point BUT this deal will get pretty damn hot with fewer than 5 people in the country actually buying the thing. It kinda makes "Hot 'UK' Deals" seem somewhat of a misnomer. Too many managers specials go crazy hot here IMHO.

do they have sleep problem? like the drive will sleep every 5min if not in use.

no they dont go into sleep mode
i bought 2 about 15 months ago just after xmas 2009 when comet was doing them for around £64 each
never had no problems
if you want to plug them into a ps3 or other item that is not a windows based pc
you will need to format it fat/fat32 as ntfs isnt supported with many items
only downside is in fat/fat32 mode you cant use files bigger than 4gb

Its progress, it happens, and no USB2 is not fast enough for external HDDs of high capacities if your doing large transfers, im not saying don't buy this, its cheap! if anything that's why its going so cheap!

yes it will "sleep" if I access the drive after ages, I get a few seconds freeze on the folder while the HDD fires up (which I can hear). I would say this helps its longevity.

I have this exact drive. Not sure what you mean by sleep, but the drive does power down, but not switch off (does that make sense?) if not used, and takes a few seconds to wake up when you do use it again.

dommy, it would be useful to know exactly what the drives inside are. Do you have a serial number/product code for them please? May want to put them in my readynas if they're compatible.
