Very nice drive. But i paid this price for it about 2 months ago from Amazon.

If you can find stock in a store, the ]IOMEGA 3.5IN 1.5TB HARD DRIVE works out less than £10 more for an extra 500Gb

any comments on reliability.....? :whistling:

Had this drive for over a year now and it's still going strong. Don't forget that Amazon comments are usually skewed towards people who have had really bad experiences with products like this (e.g. I didn't bother commenting on my purchase, but if it had failed on me then I may well have done). Just make sure you keep all essential data two or more different drives.

The drive automatically goes into sleep mode after ~10 mins of not being used and will power down when not connected to my computer via USB. When it runs it's about as quiet as you'd expect for any external drive, although I've placed a soft cloth underneath it to reduce vibrations on my hard desk. I store mine horizontally because I worry about knocking it over when it is in the vertical position - as shown in the product images. There are even four rubber 'legs' on it to allow you to stand it upright.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Apologies, I've just realised that my drive actually looks slightly different to this one. The drive I have looks slightly different (see pic). However, as far as I can tell it's just an earlier model of the WD My Book Essential.

This is a much better value for money storage solution and guess i was lucky to get it on the first posting.

Nice, but moving large amounts of data has become VERY tiresome so I'm waiting for a £100 USB 3.0 kit www.ebuyer.com/product/193325

Agreed... I bought a 1TB Iomega drive a couple of weeks back from Curry's for £54.99... and I don't think that was a special offer, just the standard price.

Marc

Western Digital is a quality brand. I have 3 x WD drives and none have failed on me yet; other brands have though.

This is the one I bought for £45 in Comet last New Year's Day, very good.

Not for Western Digital - they've got a well earned reputation for high end disk drives. Buy cheaper if you prefer - but for a WD this is a hot price.
