I've been looking for a hard drive for awhile and saw this priced for £41.97 at Currys store. I have a PC and not a Mac, I purchased it anyway. Windows 7 recognised it and I formatted the hard drive to PC.
This is a clearance model and I didn't ask if any other Currys/PC world has them in stock.

Tried to find this online but not found anything so far...

this is a great deal if anyone can find any in stock at any other stores!

Slim chance of finding one, but might get lucky.

Where was the store you found it in?

Took you long enough, you bought the item 2 days ago 5/4/2010....

I don't spend my spare time on this site. I saw a bargain, purchased it and posted it on this site as soon as I could.

I'm using it on a PC. In windows 7 it wouldn't show under My Computer until its formatted. it gets recognised under disc management and just right click on the disc and format. This may work on most hard drives that say "For Mac".

A hard drive is a hard drive so will work on a MAC and on a PC (provided the interfaces are ok........usually USB for external drives).

You may need to reformat though.

Yup. You just need to reformat it before you start using it. (This wont prevent it working on a Mac, as a Mac can read Windows formatted drives).

My pet peeve is people who think Mac is an acronym. It is Mac, not MAC.

yeah never heard of a hard drive made for just MAC, there a blank unformatted drive put on what u will but i doubt theres many at that price yet another typical bargain scam to get you into the shop....

Got a 320 from novatech for 37.00 about a year ago, misprice but they honoured, so if this is in every store this is hot

Went to my local Currys, £89.99
Pc version was £59.99. What a rip off! Same drive but formatted differently, but because it's fo a MAC the can charge an extra 40% !

so has anyone else found one or are people just voting hot (which makes a change)

loads of roasting hot deals on here lately that cant be found.....

Like most Mac products?

Ba-zing!

I have bought two of those for 39.97 (clearance price) two weeks ago form Currys near Corydon (Parley Way i think it was). They had a massive box (1,5 m x 1,5 m) pack with those drives.

I have then divided it in two partitions and made on Fat32 and on NTFS. All fine.

That's because a Mac is a "life-style" for people with money :whistling:

Unfortunately most technology shops make their money off swindling misinformed customers. Just look at the way HDMI cables have been sold in the past.

And its Mac not MAC. Mac is short for Macintosh, it doesn't stand for anything.

It was potentially written on a phone, my phone autocorrects to MAC, incredibly annoying....

Got the same a couple of weeks ago. There's even details on formatting it for PC on the WD website. Mine was a Managers special.

you can always buy the PC version and reformat it to FAT32 yourself. That way, both PC and Macs and read/write to it. i've done this for two of my 500GB external harddrives. =)

Macs will read/write to NTFS just fine if you install a plugin. No need to use ancient FAT32.

All the more reason to get an iPhone.

Very jealous of this price, over £60 at my two local stores!

Maybee I was shouting

None in Camden

Bah!! I have JUST been to PC World and bought a WD Elements portable drive, 320gb, for 39.99.

Just rang PC World and they said no stocks of this disk in any store.

I then mentioned about Currys - and they said none there either.

Looks like it's expired.... :whistling:

If you format it to NTFS for the PC - Macs can still read the data, but will not be able to write. Unless you use MacFuse - but you'll need a bit of techincal know how.
lifehack.org/art…tml

If you format this to FAT32, both PCs and Macs will be able to read write, but individual file size will be limited to
It will come formatted as HFS+ - which is the Macs native format. PCs cannot read or write this. But will be able to reformat it.

yyy.... yes:whistling:
