Good price. Dead link

For an extra £3 you can have the Seagate 320GB portable hard drive ( also on play).
Obviously a better deal.

Got the email this morning too. Price when I looked was still £49.99 but they've updated it now. Was looking at getting a 2.5 internal drive. Anyone know any deals on internal drives or am I as well getting this and removing the drive?

Also a good deal, yes but not obviously better. If 250GB is sufficient for your needs then this one is still cheaper (no point buyer bigger for the sake of it if you're never likely to fill it before it becomes obsolete). Also I have both of these drives and the WD one is a fair bit smaller and generally a neater/better looking unit.

Horses for courses, both are good deals, which is best depends on your requirements.

Any idea if this will be fine used on a Mac, or will it need reformatting?

It comes formatted as NTFS so you'd either need to reformat or install software to write to NTFS (I believe OS X can read it natively). Use FAT32 if you want to be able to read/write from both Mac & PC.

In my last 20 years with computers, I have never experienced a drive being too big.

Doesn't the Seagate drive require an external power source?

no its a portable like this

this is a useful size for chucking on files and transporting, obviously if you want bigger you'll buy bigger or have another one.
at this price its almost disposable but id not like to lose a 80quid drive which only had 100gb of random files on it

there is also the option of this at dixons for 27quid
hotukdeals.com/dea…369 which is kind of cute, not sure the flexibility so important with a low cost drive but looks good too

You need to be careful buying these to crack open for the drives now, many of them come with the usb interface as part of the disk itself, no sata connector!

Its crazy how they have dropped in price. The external drive is nearly the same price as a bare drive.

Yeah, I think I'll just get an internal.

This one day deal appears to beat - for one day (if you trust Dixons):

I bought one of these last time they were on here, Reformatted it to FAT32 so it works on both mac and PC, but it will not work on my Sumvision Micro Hd avi player, anyone got any ideas ?
