make your mind up

2tb, wow, what i dont uderstand is how computers are so expensive when we can buy memory so god damn cheep now?

I remember when I thought my 60gb Hd was gonna hold all the information in the world.

I think I will wait until the 5gb version comes out heh heh

Thats a cheap price for so much storage! I want one....

What are others experience of WD? I have a WD Elements external USB drive - 500GB and have just sent the second one back (so that's two lots of expensive return packaging for me!) - so far two units have failed with very little use with the same problem! Elements range are probably cheapest made but 2TB is an awful lot of important backup data etc to lose in one go!

I've got a WD Elements 500GB drive and two WD My-Book drives (both version 1's, I heard that the version 2's weren't as reliable).
I've had them all for over a year and they've been fine.
Admitedly, they've mainly been used to store data I want to keep, so I've not been constantly writing and deleting stuff to/from them.

For the purpose I bought them though, they've been great.

2000 gb - what the hell do you need that for? Its just getting silly now!
Why don't they just build an infinity drive and be done with it....

I've got both a version 1 (250GB) MyBook and a version 2 (1TB) MyBook studio and they both work superb. I know people say that there are some problems with them in terms of reliability / faulty drives but that is the case for all external drives at this kind of price - I've never had any problems with mine at all and the studio version with firewire is lightening fast.

2 TB. I've just checked to see what's on a spare hard drive of mine. Size? 1055.9 MB. Date on the drive 1997.

we do have that!!! :-D gmail drive, remember?

It should be noted it gets 2tb by tying 2 drives together, neatly doubling your chances of failure.

It got RAID 1 mode so you can choose between data integrity and speed/size (RAID 0). It will become 1TB in RAID 1 of course.

RAID is great really, i would be gutted at losing my data so the fact it can put your data back is brilliant. Like quikpar I guess.

The way things are going 2TB could easily be filled over a period of time. Digital Storage is the way to go I think. MS seem to be going this way also.

I've been using a 500GB WD My Book for about 6 months now with no problems. Just make sure you eject the drive from Windows to be on the safe side before disconnecting

do these switch off automatically on system shutdown?

tying would not work

hopefully halving your chance of losing everything if full or split equally

could do with some of these for work, need at least one a week.
