Just put 2 x 2Tb of these in a NAS, couldn't afford to replace the enterprise class ones that died! Got lucky on ebay and got both for under £100, neither had been registered and both were recently manufactured so I got the full 3 year warranty on them

I suspect this may go cold as people must have a specific need to pay this, it is a good deal though if this is what you are after.

That's ok if your NAS is only used for streaming your video alerts/alarms to but for routine data storage you would be better advised to avoid using them in a NAS. When recording/streaming video to disk it's more important to keep up with the flow rate than to have absolutely every byte on the disk be perfect which is why Purple drives are dangerous if used for general data storage.

I thought purples just prioritised writing over reading, which is perfect for a NAS. Got any links to why this would be an issue, because I can find anecdotal issues but nothing concrete?

The buffering, reads and writes are optimised for CCTV including ignoring read or write errors so you can continue using the drive .

I went for the purples as they included TLER and I have them in a RAID array, I'll see how they hold up with the RE4s.

Is it quiet? My parents recently got a cheap(ish) CCTV system and my old Samsung 1TB is quite loud.

Nice one - exactly what I was waiting for!

Is it expired? Can't seem to find that price on current offers.
