Thanks for your suggestion. Not sure I can stretch my budget that far. Would a 218+ be a good compromise?

Just ordered two of these for my DS218+. I would suggest you get these 6tb reds now and hold out for the 218+ to drop below £250. July was the last time it was sub £250 so i'm fairly sure it will have another drop soon before it gets retired for a newer model.
I bought one to replace a 3TB red that's full and had it delivered same day last night. They are really, REALLY quiet if that matters to anyone. It sure does to me.

So much so that I ordered 3 more* to replace my 14TB Ironwolf Pro since the noise it makes annoys me!

*you can only buy a max of 3 - had my Dad buy the remaining one.

The 8TB is Helium if that matters to you - they make louder seek noises. On the flip side - they run cooler if that matters to you more.

£20.50/TB is not a good price ratio.

Think outside the box and look into shucking: Larger 8TB+ MyBooks and Elements hold Whites, larger WD Duos (eg. 20TB+) hold Reds. You should be looking at more like £13-16/TB ratio for a deal.

Having said all that, if you must have a 6TB Red and don't want to get involved with shucking then this is prob the best price they've been individually.
Ordered this and a 2 port dock at the same time. Will plumb it into the back of my original My Cloud NAS and save myself buying a new NAS enclosure just yet.

Thanks OP
I wish i wish ooo i wish some purple surveillance version just a bit cheeper
Damn you HUKD!!!!
Purchased!
Heat
Bought yesterday. Added to the one I got on BF.
I’ve bought too much stuff already, can’t afford anything else, I would need two of these for my nas. Heat added as I would have bought if I could afford it

I'm open to shucking (pun intended) - which ones would be the best to look out for? I'm looking to up-size an HP microserver (Gen7), either by replacing the on-board drives, or adding new drives via a SAS controller (in a separate enclosure, if the on-board controller can't handle 6TB or 8TB drives). I've got a mix of 5 Toshiba and HGST 3TB drives in there, they've been absolutely fine for way over 3 years now.

Thank you!

You can get good money for the Duo enclosures on eBay and you don't need it for warranty purposes. I don't know why anyone wants them since they have unavoidable built-in encryption IIRC, but got over £50 each for two of them (after fees) a few months ago. Left me with Reds that have full warranty and no need to shuck.
Is this still available?
Showing as £179.99, now.
Yes, this is all done now. Hope you all managed to grab these at the bargain price that they were
