Been this price for a very long time, heat anyway.

yeh, this is the same price give or take a pound or two from play - as it has been for months.

Hey all,
we have an older type fat 40gb ps3,are these just something you would slot into a ps3 or is there more to it?

Hi,
Does anyone know if this drive is reliable? Is it quiet? Does it heat up easily?

I've had the 500GB version for about 8 months now, it's very quiet and I haven't noticed a heat increase, it's not a 7200rpm drive

These are the perfect drive for upgrading your Acer Revo

Heard western digital aren't the longest lasting drives, is this true? And also is it possible to transfer over my copy protected saves if it'll be to the same console and the same PS ID. Cheers. HOT

Not quite that simple, but quite easy from what I read, there's also a screw involved lol

Out of interest (I have 250gb Revo on order), do you think I would benefit from buying something like this, enclosing it in an ESATA enclosure, and hooking it up to the Revo. ( is there a big difference between ESTA and USB 2.0 for accessing 720p - 1080p content in this way?

Thanx in advance.

The PS3 Hard drive replacement procedure is easy-as-pie if that happens to be the only worry for not upgrading. My 40GB is now a 160GB powerhouse.

Would this fit a toshiba satellite U300 laptop? my friends laptop HD has gone kaput and wants me to replace it.

Should do as it comes with a SATA 2.5" hard disk as per the specs and the online reviews out there.

Cheers, Scotty Boy![/FONT]

had one of these in my phat 40GB PS3 for a while, works well and easy to fit

BEWARE !!

I used this drive to update the hard drive in my PS3 over a year ago.

Since then the BBC iPlayer has come to the PS3 and this drive will cause the video to skip every 8 seconds.

It is because the drive keeps spinning down, it's a power saving feature.

I would choose another drive as there are many.

Check the reviews on Amazon for confirmation.

Doesn't the fat PS3 use 3.5 inch drives? This is a 2.5 inch, so I don't think it's suitable for an old fatty ps3.

Also, be aware that these drives come in a raw state. There is no pre-formatting or partitions which means if you are planning on using it for anything other than a new ps3 expansion, you may have a small headache on your hands trying to get a windows operating system to even see the drive, let alone format it. Just my experience.

no fatties use 2.5

All PS3's use 2.5"(I know you didn't say they don't. Just for clarification.)

There are fixes available to get around this... well work arounds!

one in the review on the play website.. not ideal but hopefully helpful if you have the drive already

Nice spot.... just ordered!

Just ordered one for my mates laptop - his drive blew and was almost identical to this one lol

Oh well, fingers crossed he has better luck this time around

I would ALWAYS keep a back up of a 2.5 Hard Drive no matter who the manufacturer is. When you compare it to 3.5 it is amazing how they can get it that small.

Cheers, already using the work around but would be better if I didn't have to. Don't want to have to change the drive just yet.

But on Amazon's website, it says this is an ATA drive, not SATA. Here is the link to the SATA one, I'm looking for my sister's Macbook, and it doesn't hurt to be too careful when £40 is at stake.

The connections in the photograph show it as an SATA drive if that's any help.

Not sure if anyone answered this, but essentially no, as USB 2 will cope with the transfer speeds required to play the files straight from the enclosure. It would only make a difference if you were copying the files to the internal drive.

No hard drive comes with partitions on it, and I've never had a headache formatting them!! It's very simple to do.

When I looked about on the internet a couple months ago a lot of people seemed to be saying that and were suggestion a Seagate HD as the best option.
