I just got mine with the intention of backing up my entire movie collection as vobs but the player won't read most of them. My PS3 does.

Looks like mine might be going back.

convert your vobs to iso's and your away mate.
or xvid, or x264 ect ect ect lol.

i love mine...great bit of kit

How do i convert them to iso's? Or will I have to pluck all my DVD's back down from the loft?

Answer The Q
Thank U

Aren't vobs just a type of mpg? Try changing the file extension on one of your files to .mpg and see if it works.

It actually dropped to £64 for a few hours early yesterday. Couldn't make up my mind wether to order one (mainly because my hard drives are full of TS/vob files & also with the new version due out). While I was still dithering it went up to £69. Still undecided.

Use imgburn, ]http//ww…om/

Once downloaded, just select 'create image file from files/folders', drag the folder containing your vob files into the big white box on the left, select your output location and then click on the green play button on the left hand side. Job done!

Really hope this is true. That would play every movie format out there almost, and the networking capability means it'd actually be worthwhile having this in the living room (without having to constantly loads films onto a USB device back and forth from the PC).

Why on earth would you doubt it's not true? electric-echoes.blogspot.com/200…tml

There is also the Popcorn Hour which is highly popular but costs a lot more than this little beauty [though I do prefer my PH and I've got both]

There is also the xtreamer which will play everything including mkvs, comes with wireless adapter (and streams avi's with no stutter over wireless no problem), and cost me less than £100. Firmware is still being updated to iron out some minor bugs and it needs a mediabrowser style gui, but this is on the way. Good price here for the wdtv and therefore heat added, but it's slightly dated technology and the price will keep coming down- for not much more you can get significantly better functionality and value.

Will it handle BBC iPlayer?

When I have a DVD ISO, you can't use the chapters as it goes to the next ISO.

What am I doing wrong?

Great piece of kit BTW.

It would certainly have the potential to (with network port now included). But no word of support out of the box. I wonder if a browser would be a nice addition? You could then access iPlayer through the browser amongst other things, e.g. IMDB.

laze

Got WDTV and it does what it says on the box very well. Very interested in the WD TV Live as I could do with the network capabilities for the bedroom. If it does what it is suposed to do and is the prices quote in the message above then I will have one of those too.

Just got the down-low from someone on the WDTV development team. Networking definitely included on the next version and didn't deny the pics here which show the DTS logo. avsforum.com/avs…923
He has one at home at the mo but wouldn't comment on price or release date.
Also, there is a Mini version coming out. This New Zealand site has it up already.

Not sure of the point of this . Presumably it is smaller and cheaper but the original is already small and cheap enough surely.

Whats the best type of hard drive to use with one of these.Reading most of the posts on the various threads on this player it looks like a portable drive is the best.Or has there been a new firmware update to fix the probs with big mains powered hd's as this would be more preferable on the price side.
Aint got one yet waiting to see what happens with the price.
