You should mention that it's Graded stock although it does have a 6 months RTB warranty.

Still good buy for that price! I would have got one myself as my HD DVD recorder packed in but I replaced the DVD drive for £20 so it's working again

This looks good!

If anybody here has this please could you do a test for me: try to record a sell thru VHS (i.e. one that was bought in a shop, rather than something you recorded off the TV - a feature film for example) to the hard drive or DVDr... does the picture flicker and give a crap recording, or does it come out okay?

I need to know this for the following reason - I have loads of old tapes of stuff from the TV which I want to archive to DVDr - so 3 years ago I got a Toshiba HD and DVD recorder. Lovely machine but flawed because it senses the Macrovision pulse - a signal put on sell thru tapes which is invisible when yopu play the tape and watch it on a TV, but when you try to record it on a recorder that has the Macrovision circuit it makes the picture flicker - so stopping you from copying the tape.

Now this is fine if it only affects sell thru tapes, but on my Toshiba it is so sensitive that it interprets old tape stretch/dropout/etc as the Macrovision copy protection signal - thus stopping me from recording my old taped to DVD... very frustrating!

Now, you'd assume that all recorders would have the Macrovision circuit, but my mate has a £40 DVDr recorder made by goodmans or some crappy company and his records old tapes, and sell thru videos without a hint of flicker!

So I'm after a DVD/Hard Drive recorder which I can use to archive all my old VHS tapes - so I can chuck the sodding things out at long last!!!

Can anyone help?

Do you mean copyrighted tapes when you state "sell thru"?

Well yes, sort of. Sell thru are VHS tapes sold in a shop e.g. HMV... as opposed to rental tapes, which are also copyrighted, and also usually have the macrovision signal.

Ironic that the macrovision developed for DVDs is easy to crack!

Well I do pirate anything I can get my hands on but this is for all the bits and pieces I taped off the TV - the macrovision circuit interprets old tape as protected - thus stopping you from transferring it, whether it is copyrighted or not.
