Still hot though

...funnily enough these do have a reputation for running VERY hot and are plagued with problems...having a 160GB HD full of programmes I want to watch but not record when the machine packs up would not be amusing!!

...great price but in this case it doesn't seem worth the hassle!!

will this record from Virgin media? or just the freeview input?

Bought one a year or so ago, was £80 new from Argos at the time. Mine doesn't run hot but that's not surprising with the horrendously loud Fan that sits under the hard drive. resoled this by fitting a ]Zalman fanmate inline between fan and board then turning fan speed down a touch.

If you add the £10 delivery charge on top its nearly same price as ebuyer £74.64 + free del

ebuyer.com/pro…431

Can the HDMI be used to inut from a HD device??

i have the 250 gig version and it will record from sky and you can record direct from a digi cam/camcorder

good machines just a bit long winded to use untill you are used to it

NO

This is one of the most misleading posts I can ever remember seeing!
The heat is rising way out of proportion, and part of that could well be due to the way it is listed :-(

First, it is not new, it is secondhand, "refubished" as euphemistically described - surely that should be in the title not tucked away?

"Possible £10 voucher too in addition"
You could not be more wrong:
"Other eXpansys special offers like vouchers cannot be used with this offer. Available while stocks last."

While the voucher may possibly be deducted on checkout, Expansys have done this before, and WILL charge the full price without any warning! :-(

Finally the price is £71.44 as the delivery is 9.95 PLUS VAT!

Note at the bottom states 'Please note these are refurbished units'.

Good deal

Got rid of mine because the DVD player/recorder was "very" noisy - It uses a big Toshiba Drive and naturally the sound was similar to my XBox360 drive:p

I have had the 80gb model for well over a year, got it on a great deal £40 from Argos at the end of catalogue. It is the best £40 i have ever spent, yes the machine does give off some noise at times but you soon get use to it. I have mine connected up to my bedroom Sky and it find it more usefull then SKY+(which i have in the front room). This is because it is very easy to transfer anything you have on your hard drive to DVD so you can watch it on any TV. It is also a good multi region DVD player. If you can put up with the sound these are very good.

I think the comment explain what a c***p machine this is. Cold.

P.S.. Is this inaccurate listing by a rep of Expansys to get onto the front page ????

Edit: All removed. Apology accepted.

I got this new from Argos last Christmas. Been fairly reliable and quality of recording is alright. The fan is slightly noisey, but nothing next to the 360; mine is about the same as the PS3 it sits beside.

User interface is a little shonky, but it's usable after a fashion. The biggest problem for me is the 'beating pattern' (diagonal stripes and pulsing audio) that you get when you watch TV via it. It's not evident on the recordings at all, which is fine.

In general, it's fine, and I mainly bought mine to back up to DVD some old video camera movies I had archived and it did that job just great. I wouldn't really choose the machine again if I had to unless I only had around £70 to spend. I'd prefer to go for something with a better interface, or perhaps a PC-based solution.

In summary though, it's not bad.

Oh dear.Such anger :-(
I am pleased it isn't school home time, with posts like this.

Reported post.

You are also now on my Ignore list. Apart from posting misleading deals, I see no benefit from continuing to read your foul outbursts.

For the hard of understanding:
Please not this means from NOW I will not see you posts, and as you will undoubtedly have a desire to shout more abuse, that will be picked up and dealt with by the moderator - net effect, we are all happy!

I have no axe to grind here, but I feel that your original post was more aggressive than it needed to be, which is what elicited the OP's response, which I do not consider to be any fouler than what you have just written, and which does contain a degree of truth. In general, too many people on this forum are far too trigger happy when it comes to being disrespectful, dismissive, and derogatory about listings and comments. The mods have as much right in my view to censure (sic) you as they do the OP.

Whatever happened to constructive criticism?

Is this a single Freeview tuner? As far as I can see, after rereading the description, it is. This means that if you want to watch something on Freeview while recording from Freeview - you can't.

I think I will stick with my Digifusion twin Freeview for the time being.

Heat added for the price.

I've had one of these for about a year now.

For the money it's not bad.

However, mine does run very hot and is fairly noisy - both fan and HDD. Also, I hate the interface for scheduling recordings. If you use the programme guide, there is no way (as far as I can see) to set a couple of minutes before and after - consequently many truncated recordings. I have to manually add the channel, start and end times.

The DVD player is more fussy than my Panasonic, in that it won't play some of the DVDs I've recorded myself.

There is an annoying hum on the coax output to my speakers when watching recorded programs- DVD is fine though.

However it is cheap, the HDMI and upscaling are useful, and it's good for recording your old VHS stuff onto and DVD-ing it.

The reason why I questioned your post is that I have evidence that from time to time, companies list items here under a pseudonym to gain visibility of their name or to obtain email addresses for spamming (with 'mis-priced' items). If your listing is genuine, my apology, but your wording and inaccuracy lead me to this conclusion.

I would suggest that further discussion of offensive postings isn't in anyone's interest on the thread.
The moderator no doubt will deal with it, and I am sure when you get called an expletive with 4 letters you will not be very pleased either.

I would be most obliged if you would edit out the posting, it get round the posting ban on masked four letter words!

I do however see the heading is still in it's original form, (despite subsequent postings that it wold be corrected), with the total amount not shown as per posting convention too.

From that we can continue to form our own opinions

Not meaning to be picky but I see 5 *'s I can only think of one word that fits that one!

Anyway! Not a bad price I suppose. I think BigPockets had these for a little more a while ago, deals like this with terrible postage costs really put me off though. I'm sure this could be posted nearer the £7 mark.

This could solve our DVD problem though.. (we need DVD over HDMI as SCART looks poo)

If you look closely, you will see that there are 5 asterisks, and no letters other than the plural "s". Any 5 letter word would therefore fit. You chose to read it as a foul 4-letter expletive.

Apology accepted from Pet2000. I've updated both posts accordingly.

I'm not sure what caused nihcaj to throw their toys out of the pram.

I try really hard to follow Chuck U's advice and I suggest that maybe other people should too.
