Wharfedale Diamond 220 back down to £99 at Richer Sounds

These are a great set of speakers for the price, and have been at £119 for the last month or so, but dropped back to £99 over the weekend.

I took the plunge and bought some as an upgrade from my Wharfedale Diamond 9.0s after much delibration - I'd been toying with the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 or the Dali Spektor 2 but both of these are twice the price of the Diamond 220s. I'm sure they will be better than the 220s but it's not fair to compare when there is such a big price difference! When I picked them up the sales rep told me the upgrade from Diamond 9s to Diamond 220s would be 'night and day' and don't get me wrong, they are excellent speakers, and definitely a much fuller sound than the Diamond 9s, but I think it's easy to underestimate how amazing the Diamond 9s are for the price.

True, but that comes with the unknown of what condition they are in or how much punishment they have been through! Plus 6 year 'warranty' from Richer Sounds adds a bit of extra peace of mind...

Unpowered speakers are simple things and you wont be covered for things like pushing the domes in or any rips or tears.

If you buy used off enthusiast forums you will get them in excellent condition.

That's a fair point, and is partly why I put warranty in inverted commas, but I think it's also fair to say plenty of people wouldn't be comfortable buying off a forum and might prefer a still relatively decent deal from an official reseller
100 watt? Is that per speaker or for the pair? Also is that peak power or rms?
worst case is that these are just 40 watt speakers I suppose.

100w is the upper limit on the recommended amplifier rating (25-100w). I'm driving them with a Marantz PM6004 (45w/channel) and whilst they are slightly harder to drive than my Diamond 9s, there's no way you'd need to go past 11 o'clock on the volume for regular listening.
Had these before but I prefer the mordant short 20's
I’m an audio noob and can’t really tell much difference between sound. But can I put these in a home cinema setup for LR and surround channels?

Can anyone compare these with the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 (£119 a pair at Amazon) please? I'm torn between these two and can't make up my mind.

Without demo'ing them, not sure. You'll have to go off price and appearance for now
